Default 17 Rims & Winter Tires

If anyone wants to share their insights of where to get some rims and new(er) winter tires (foreign brand) in Calgary I'd be appreciate it. My 18" summer performance will have to retire soon for the Winter months to come. The price at Glenmore Audi is pretty hefty ~$2500 (tires & rims) so am looking for alternatives

Thanks.

Yup. Thanks for reminding me to post here.

Incidentally, a few days ago, I found out my son's art teacher's husband works at 'Riegel Tuning', and at their household, everybody is driving Audis

I went with his recommendation and purchased 17" Alloy rims and Federal Himmalaya WS2 winter tires. Apparently, the traction with those on ice is superb. The aluminium rims were only ~$30 more / piece than steel rims so I gave my car the extra treatment (e.g. how many times in so many years is someone buying rims). Total cost with tax and install: $1750

Cheers,
Dominic

Thats still pretty steep.....there are plenty of used 17 and 18 inch rims to be found on Kijiji for under $500 some even have winters mounted.

You're looking for rims with a 5x112 bolt pattern and something with a mid to high offset or ET 30-45mm and your rockin.

Audi, Mercedes and some VW's use the 5x112 pattern but Mercedes have a different centerbore and you can get hubrings to compensate. 66.56-57.1 I got some on Fleabay

I have no doubt that you may well be right. However, if the seller wouldn't be knowledgable about the product I'd be hooped And that was the biggest driver in my decision so I followed my neighbour's advice.

Does anyone know where to get some OEM rims, to fit an A4 with true s-line package?

That sounds pretty good. Steeper price than what I found, but looks like both of us are happy

I bought a set of new 245/45 R17 Yokohama W-Drive winter tires thru e-Bay. Had them shipped to Pembina ND. Drove down and picked them up and paid Duty & Taxes etc at the border.

i then bought a set of gently used OEM 2009 Audi 10 spoke 17x8 wheels complete with TPMS thru an Audizine member. Did the same delivery and pick-up as the tires.

The wheels came with a good set of used tires which I then traded for removing, installing and balancing my winter set.

My total delivered cost to me was just under $1,400 CDN incl all taxes.

Since my 2011 will not need the TPMS sensors, I will eventually sell them on and save some more.

Supposed to be near zero tomorrow in Ottawa, so time to get on with it. Just completed Tire Rack purchase of 4 Michelin Pilot Alpin P3 and rims. Have decided to go with the conventional wisdom of a smaller road patch for winter tires, so opted for 225 50 17 vice the 18 low profile/wide original equipment. The tires are rated tops for several key catagories including ice braking which should be good for Ottawa's occasional snow packed conditions. Also tops for quiet. Total price to the door $1731.
