Importing from USA.

Re: Importing from USA.
Wonder how many people are importing now that the dollar is weaker?
Well, I successfully imported a 2008 A4 Avant in Sept through the peace arch crossing, just before the economy and dollar blew up.
I only needed the DRL turned on, which the dealer in Bellingham did as part of the sale.
The process was really quite straight forward, as long as you have all your paperwork in order. These forums and other sites like importcartocanada.info were a massive help.
The only *minor* catch for me was when I brought the car into Canada (after going through Canada customs) I drove the 100 meters to the weigh scale to get a BC permit (I already had insurance). This was a no-no and the lady at the counter threatened to give me a ticket, but in the end all worked out OK. So...if you do this yourself through the peace arch, I recommend walking to the weigh scale or getting a registration in Washington (my car was delivered to the border).
Sure is a nice car to drive!

Yes! Press and hold the two buttons (I believe side and bottom) on the right lever at the same time and it will allow you to go into the menu where you can change everything over to metric.
Good Luck!

Re: Importing from USA.
I imported an 06 s4 from Utah. It all went well. Do your homework first. Audi Canada was great and the warranty is transferrable. The sites quoted above have all the info you need. I had the dealer in Utah check the car before I bought it and they did some warranty work before I picked it up. Also had them do the reprogramming for the DRL's-cost me $80. They did the recall clearance letter for me at no cost. Audi Canada will also do it for you for free. You can get it in advance if you fax them a copy of your bill of sale. After you cross the border and have paid your fee (I did it by credit card to make it faster), call RIV and ask nicely and they fax the Form 2 right away. I had Cdn Tire do both federal and provincial inspection and then went straight to get my insurance. I drove the car around with the Utah permit on it and had no trouble-but I only drove it to the inspection and to buy the insurance. I would suggest you get a permit from one of the States and try to avoid getting the permit in BC. Probably not legal, but you'll likely get away with it as long as you have the insurance from ICBC or your provincial insurer. I even got a speeding ticket in Wa and the state patrol didn't care about my Utah tags, BC insurance and DL. Good luck. LOVE MY CAR and would import again.

Re: Importing from USA.
Anyone have a guide/info link for importing a new Audi A6 (2010) into Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from the USA? I know the RIV webpage.. But what else is required for warranty transfer etc?
Is it true that some Audi dealers are charging a "welcome tax" to service your US purchased car under warranty?

Re: Importing from USA.
Hi. I just joined the forum today as I'm considering importing a brand new 2009 Audi A4 Avant from the US next year a couple of months before my Honda lease runs out in July 31, 2009.
Can you please refer me to your contact? I would like to know if he can arrange for me to lease a brand new Audi that's originally from the U.S.
I would also like to find out if Vancouver Audi dealerships would honor the warranty if it's originally a US car?

Re: Importing from USA.
No problem, I'm sure he's appreciate the business. His name is Abtin Navab, Santa Monica Audi.
Can't remember but it seems to me that, at the time, importing new (even old stock) or leased vehicles had some caveats attached so be careful and be sure. I drove by a number of impounded vehicles at the border (new Dodge Viper....ouch!) that didn't meet the import rules and as such were not going to get in. Spoke to a CBSA Agent that simply shook his head and said "when spending 100K plus you'd think they would check", no kidding! This is a heads up project so take you time. Audi AG has been great unlike Benz and some others that charge 500+ for a letter that deal with recall information, yes you need it. Good luck and yes I love my TT, fast, agile and a boot load of fun when it's not -37 like it is here at the moment.
