Default Voice recognition language

Good day all,

Just curious about the default language that should come with the car.

When I got the car, the dealer told me they configured the car with the english voice recognition setup. This is fine with me.

When I read the user manual, they seem to imply that the car comes with 3 language: French, English and spanish. And I can switch with the MMI at will.

However, the dealer told me that if I want to switch language, they can do it for me i.e. I have to go back to the dealer and have them reconfigured the MMI.

According to the book, I should be able to do it myself and not having to rely on the dealer for this.

How is it supposed to be?

Being in Montreal, street names are a mix of french and english so I am not sure if I want to be stuck with only one language.

I might want to keep the french (as my primary language is) for voice recognition but might want to switch to english for trips outside the province and to USA.

Voice recognition is also used by the NAVI system and having an english street name pronounced in french is very annoying and vice versa.

Can someone confirm to me how namy language should come with the Q5?

Thanks

Marc G
Thanks

This information is clearly outlined on page 38 bottom right of the MMI Navigation Plus Operation Instruction manual that came along with the Owner's Manual.

Press: Setup > Settings > Voice Recognition.

I am pretty sure you can only have one primary language active at any given time.

If your car is recent you can always go back to the dealer for a complimentary second walk through in details of all the features within the car. You can ask them to focus on this feature for you.

Thanks Warcity,

I understand I can only have 1 language active at a time.

What I would like to know is if people with voice recognition have more than 1 language loaded in the MMI and if they can switch without having to make a trip to the dealer.

Your dealer is incorrect. Older systems with voice recognition required a visit to the dealer to change the language.

With the 3G MMI Navigation system that came out in 2010, you can now choose the language in the car setup (as Warcity mentioned above) without having to go to the dealer.

I'm not sure if Bluetooth commands can be changed though. It might only be English.

Problem fix.

Like they say, 99.9% of problem with computers is due to the guy behind the keyboard

I had assumed that the display language and the voice recognition language were 2 different setup.

By changing the display language, the voice recognition changed as well which makes lot of sense.

Thank all for making me going back at the settings again.

So, how do I change the language of the Voice Command ? (the display language is English, but the voice command is in French)
