You should be able to play them. However, I really wouldn't advise to you play movies due to the location of the monitor. Unless you want to watch while waiting in a parking for someone. In fact, I remember mentioning to sales person that I don't understand why it came with a dvd player because I will never use it. In fact, I don't even understand why it comes with 6 CDS changer, because I only play music using MP3 players, even at home. I understand that some are using them but, I believe cd or dvd player should be optional. In my case, these are things I waisted resources on.

sorry to change this from music to movie, but I believe you can use the VAG-COM to override the MMI to allow you to play movies while driving. HOWEVER you are also open to getting a traffic ticket for playing movies in the front cabin (even if you are legitimately not watching the movie) while driving. There may be an old thread about this movie topic.
