Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
In 2011 Audi merged the audi/data ESNs. We have no choice but to wait for Sirius Can to offer traffic service. The trial service is coming over from the US that's why it's limited.

My trial is offered from Sirius Canada. The email was from Sirius Canada as well. That's why I was a bit surprised that the traffic is working (even if its limited).

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
I want to keep this thread alive in hopes that traffic information will become available. During the two weeks in February when Sirius Canada turned the traffic on, we started our road trip to southern Texas from Toronto. We got to sample the traffic information all the way. It was excellent for urban areas and there was even good traffic information available in relatively unpopulated areas for major roads. We only encountered heavy traffic around a few major cities and the information there was accurate and useful. Nashville, in particular, had some stop-and-go traffic and the red areas on the maps were quite precise in indicating both the start and end of congested areas.
We do a fair bit of travel in the US. From my perspective, a traffic subscription for US-only traffic would be worthwhile even if there were to be no improvement in the meager GTA information.

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
warcity,
Maybe you have some info regarding my situation:
I purchased a new 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 in October 2009 (sorry it’s not an Audi). As part of the sales package, I received free of charge a one year's subscription to Sirius Satellite Radio with Sirius Traffic included. When my subscription was about to expire, I received a notice from Sirius to renew my subscription. I did this and continued to receive both the Satellite Radio and Traffic without interruption and continued without interruption for over two years (renewed twice) until two days ago (April 10). Without warning, I lost both my radio signal and my traffic signal. I called Sirius to get both reconnected and managed to get the radio signal back, but still can’t get the traffic signal back. Like others on this forum, when I called Sirius trying to get the traffic service reconnected, I was told over and over that they have no record of this because they don’t offer this service. If it weren’t for the mysterious “cancellation” of my signals two days ago, I’d still be getting the traffic service. Any ideas on how to get my traffic service back? It was lost only because of some glitch with Sirius.

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
Hello Jordan:
Whenever you receive traffic info in Canada, that's coming to you from Sirius US. Once in a while Sirius Canada gives out 2 week free trials, every time they do that, they merge their signal with Sirius US and suddenly we all start getting traffic but once the trial is over it goes away.
If your radio has 1 unique radio ID then you're out of luck, you can only get radio signal BUT if you have 2 unique IDs (1 for radio and 1 for data), then what you can do is call Sirius US and setup an account with them, this way your radio and data will come from US and you'll start to get traffic info. But for this you'll need a US address (you can use a Canadian credit card). I used to have this setup on my 2010 Q5 and it worked perfectly but my current Audi has 1 ID so I am out of luck.

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
Ario,
I do, indeed, have two SID's - one for my radio and one for traffic. My Sirius Traffic was NOT a two week trial, unless two week trials are extended for 2.5 years. I've had this service since I purchased my new vehicle in October 2009 and this service has been renewed twice, but now it's not available in Canada?!?! Or perhaps Sirius decided to terminate ALL the traffic subscriptions that had been operating in Canada (like mine) in order to get more money for their "new" Canadian traffic service?
To set up a new U.S. account now would be a waste of money since my current subscription with Sirius does not expire until Sept. 2012.

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
I think in your case there was a glitch for a long long time which kept the traffic signal from the US coming to your car. Sirius Canada never had traffic it's always coming from US. I think Toronto (and Vancouver, I think) are the only 2 cities that have traffic.
You're right if your radio subscription goes all the way till Sept there is no point but consider calling Sirius US to see if you can get traffic ONLY subscription. This way you can get traffic from US and radio from Canada but I am not sure if traffic/radio are bundled or not. You can give their 800 number a quick call and just ask. If so, you can always use someone's address or get a PO box address and use it coupled with your Canadian credit card.

[QUOTE=warcity;177816] I think Toronto (and Vancouver, I think) are the only 2 cities that have traffic.
Toronto you say? Hmmm. Wouldn't Mississauga qualify as Toronto/GTA? I'm less than two KM from Toronto. This would negate the "glitch" theory. Also, do you truly believe a glitch could last 2.5 years? Shouldn't Sirius have caught this "glitch" the FIRST time I paid to renew my subscription for one year? Definitely should have caught it after my SECOND renewal for an additional year!
I hate to disagree with you, but I don't buy the "glitch" theory. It’s too much of a coincidence that I would lose my Traffic service after 2.5 years of flawless performance and just prior to the rumoured April 2012 release of Sirius Traffic in Canada. I believe it was maliciously planned so Sirius can introduce their “new" Canadian Traffic Service and wring more cash from everyone.

Re: Q5 Navigation (TRAFFIC UPDATES) in Canada
Sirus Traffic was available in Canada on Chrysler and Ford vehicles. However, as of 2012 it is only available in the lower 48 states; not in Canada.
The old SiriusTraffic page said:
The new SiriusXM Traffic FAQ page says:
I had XM NavTraffic on my previous vehicle and I cancelled it after a year; it was a waste. It only gave me flow information for the Lakeshore and Gardiner. The incident reports were hours if not days out of date. As well they only updated the traffic reports between 7am and 9pm. I called them and they said in Canada they had a person manually entering updates whereas in the US it was all automated.
Anyway, considering how limited the information was in Canada, you're not missing much.
The old SiriusTraffic page said:
EQUIPMENT
Q. Which navigation systems are capable of using SIRIUS Traffic data? And where can I get them?
A. Sirius Traffic equipment and service is integrated into several new models of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ford and Lincoln vehicles. Visit www.sirius.com/traffic for more information on specific models.
Q. Will SIRIUS Traffic expand into Canada?
A. Yes. Today, Sirius offers traffic incident information for three Canadian markets and flow information for one Canadian market. Sirius will continue to expand the Canadian coverage in the future.

SiriusXM Traffic is not available in Canada. Our satellite service is available only to those at least 18 and older in the 48 contiguous USA and DC.
