Impact of winter storage on battery (2014 Q5)
Hello
My question concerns what to do about the battery during winter storage. I am usually gone for two major periods over the course of the winter... 6 or 7 weeks just before Christmas and then 3 months after. During that time I will be parking my Q5 in the underground parking area of the condo building where I live. My concern is with the battery. There are no power outlets where I can plug in a trickle charger.
While it is parked, what items like the clock and radiocontinue to draw power from the battery and how much... basically, will I encounter problems when I return? In the past, I parked my Buick for the same periods, left the battery disconnected and experienced no problems so I hope that the same will apply for my Q5.
Has anyone gone through this? Any suggestions?
Hope you can help, Javier

It's a shame to see a Q5 parked during the winter. That car loves the snow.
IMO, leaving it plugged in should have no issues when you come back. I am not sure if anyone has tried it on a Q5 or maybe another model. Have you asked the dealer?

Thanks. I don't expect any problems either, but the Q5 is loaded with so many electronics that I am concerned about the battery discharge rate while the car is not being driven. I have spoken with the dealer's service rep about my question but I need to pursue it further with them. Certainly the last thing I really want to do is to disconnect the battery or instal a cutoff switch.
