a few Q's from a potentially new Q7 owner
I just sold my 2010 A6 3.0 s line and i have put a deposit on a 2012 Q7 3.0 S Line in Graphite with 21's.
I have a few questions:
1) is the Q7 a lot more comfortable than the A6? I really liked everything about the A6 except for the comfort. I did not find it comfy at all. I came from 3 range rangers and 7 volvos into Audi, so from a comfort point of view it is hard to match RR and Volvo! I hope this Q7, being bigger is much more comfy! Any comments??
2) I am not sure what to do about tires, I have never been one use snows. But the tire options for the 21's are limited for an ALL SEASON> do i need to go with a winter package? IF so any recommendations?
Those are the two Q's for now. looking forward to the responses.

I dunno about #1 since I haven't driven A6s or Q7s for extended periods, but #2 you should definitely be buying winter tyres. All-seasons are not really tyres, they are bad jokes that should never even be allowed to be sold, lol. If you're buying a Q7 with 21" wheels, even a couple years old, I'd imagine you still must be spending something like $50k no? In that case it would be foolish not to spend $1-2k or so on winters.
I would suggest you downsize for winter and get cheap[er] wheels. That will give you tyres that are more narrow (better for snow) as well as tyres that are much less expensive. TireRack says you can go down to 18" wheels on that vehicle, which is what I would do. Select a good tyre in that size (Latitude Xice Xi2 is a good choice), and pair those with some 18" wheels and you should be good.

thanks for the response. Yes that is exactly what i paid, 51K
I am sure i will do winter tires. looking at maybe using the 21's and putting on a 21" pirelli snow tire. still have not decided, but i'll let you and everyone know which way I go. I won't have the car until early November. and probably out tires on shortly after that.

pretty sure i am going to go with winter tires (pirelli scorpions). For $80 per year the tire company i am buying them from will store my other tires and for another $80 switch them out. No charge to put on the first time with purchase. I really only keep a car 2 years max! so for a a few hundy (not counting the original purchase $1550) i can get snows on and off a few times and stored. really not that bad.
So i just have to ask; any one with 21's and snows. How are they? do i really need to consider going to 18-19's with snows. I don't mind driving the 21's year round from a snow / salt perspective. Is the width an issue as Roland suggested?

I had 22" summer wheels, and a 20" winter set up on my '09 Q7. A 20" winter setup was perfect on the Q7. If you are looking for a high quality winter wheel, check out Hartmann. They make top quality replica Audi wheels.
