I was searching for audi sq5 steering failure...got here...

Why ? Well just like others our steering failed today. Started the car, warmed up for couple of minutes, made 3 turns (90 degrees or more) and got the warning. Reading your stories, I now totally understand the feeling experienced at the wheel. It is pretty scary !

My wife took the car today with our little baby. I feel so lucky it happened to me when I was alone in the car. They're supposed to call me back for towing and stuff....it's friday so only on Monday it'll be checked out I suppose...

2015 SQ5, delivered July 2014 (old steering version I suppose)
8200km
-19 celcius

Drive safe
Niquet at St-Bruno did an amazing job on my SQ .. My wife is pregnant and I told the tech guy the same thing. I dont know why Audi doesnt care more about that issue, I was told that it only happen at low speed( under 30 km) but like you said that little bit scary.

SQ5 is supposed to be a fast, fun and powerful SUV/CUV, we are not talking here about a kia rio or a hyundai accent, I can't understand that you can have that kind of safety issue with a reputed brand like Audi.

Imagine, you push the truck to his limit (on a close circuit for sure lol ) and you need to avoid something but the steering fails at the same time...

We need to contact Audi Canada for sure.

Don't get me wrong... its an amazing truck... one of the best purschase I made so far , but if I'm scared to let my wife driving the truck theres something wrong especially at 62k

Hi guys just wanted to let everyone know this happened to my wife today. It was -22 outside and she was driving the vehicle. She stopped to go to the groceries (at 10am) and when she came back out we had the steering wheel malfunction error as well. She had our two little girls so she took a cab and went home. I am heading to the vehicle after work (around 6:30pm) and will call Audi Roadside assistance when i reach the vehicle. Since tomorrow is a holiday we wont' be able to contact Audi until Tuesday morning. Sucks. Will keep everyone updated. But i wanted to make people aware this seems not like an isolated issue. Can anyone tell me if they had to pay for this repair? or was it covered by the dealer. Our vehicle is under warranty still and it is only around 52000km (Audi Q5, 2013).

Thanks

Wow. I have not checked this forum for awhile and see that the string of issues continues for many. As I suspected, since I knew there were a lot of vehicles out there with the potential.

Agree with everyone else...why Audi does nothing with this makes no sense to me. They know it is an issue since the part changed mid-cycle in production apparently in 2015.

I went all the way to the top management team including the President of Audi Canada. If you ever want to feel good about your Audi purchase, don't talk to any of these people lol. I was told there is no issue, that the Audi techs have examined and determined there is nothing to issue a recall or TSB about. Really? Audi Cda customer relations manager was especially terrible.

Transport Canada is still investigating, I checked last week. I cannot see how a recall does not come at some point, but my guess is Audi tries its best to stop that from happening.

Exclamation Re: Dangerous steering failure on new 2014 SQ5

I have a 2015 SQ5 with almost 3000k on it, the stering failed today as I was driving on a side street, the steering wheel could not be moved. The warning light said" Do not drive steering will defectiive"
Really/!
Unfortuantel I was driving!
Had this happened on an expressway it would have been fatal.

It was 21 below day (centigrade) I warmed the car up for 7 minutes before I drove it.

These other expierence seem like a systemic problem ?

Has anyone been hurt with this hazzard?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but couldn't help but share my incident. I have a 2015 SQ5 with 12K on it. On family day weekend, I drove about 3 blocks at 50KPH when the steering warning light "Defective Steering" came on with a few beeps telling me to pull over. It was around -21.5 Celsius + windchill. In my case, the warning light didn't not go away after 3 hours of warming up waiting. Let's say the SQ had to be towed to a dealer and good thing I wasn't on a highway!
The next business day, the Audi service rep advised me he's never encountered this problem before. I have a hard time believing that. Regardless, he called me later that day to tell me the rack and pinion was defective. So they ordered a new unit from Germany that will take 10days....

I still think the SQ is nice, but this steering problem is of concern. I'm not confident this problem will be completely resolved even after the rack/pinion is replaced.

SQ5 Defective Steering
Audi had this PR problem with their accelerators. Anyone remember that?
I will hear back Monday what dealer says is the problem. But please let me know the names and tittle of Audi people you spoke to. I am not going to let this rest without Audi alerting people. I don't think I can let my wife drive this car with my child even when they fix it!
