Default Can't get second key seat memory to work

Hi,

With three weeks on our new Q5 now, I finally feel like I've explored and understand just about all the features. However, I seem to have a problem with the seat memory in the smart key, and wanted to see if anyone else experiences the same thing.

My key seems to have stored my preferred seat position in memory fine, and after the seat is moved and I open the vehicle with my key the seat automatically returns to the correct position. However, my wife's key doesn't seem to do the same for her. I've tried moving the seat, and then locking the car using her key. Then I use my key to unlock, which moves the seat, and then relock. But when I return with her key and unlock the seat doesn't move.

Everything else about the second key works fine...car starts, locks, unlocks, etc with no problems. Just the memory is an issue. Am I assuming correctly that both keys should be capable of storing separate seat position settings?

I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Hi Steve:

Yes your assumption is correct. My key stores my preference and my wife stores hers. Depending on which fob we use the key goes to the specified seating.

Try this:

Unlock the car with her fob, sit inside and press the memory key number 2 (assuming that's where her preference is stored). When the seat moves to her preference press the "set" button the door and make a minor change to her settings and then hold down "2" and restore her settings. This "might" trigger the fob to rewrite the seat preferences in it's memory.

Then turn off the car and lock the car with her fob. Open the car with your fob and the seat should go to your preferences. Turn the car on and off, lock with your fob and open with hers and see if the seat moves to her preference.

I hope this makes sense . This is exactly how I set it up originally.

Good luck.

I can tell you that I had the same problem with our 2010 Q5 Premium delivered about 3 weeks ago - it was a big problem as my wife and I share the Q5 - solution is that when your wifes key is in the vehicle you do have to turn on Seat Memory Feature again even though you had already done so with your key - this feature requires it be turned on for each driver (key) - I believe its under set up - Seat Memory Feature - once I turned it on for my wife the feature works great!

Good point, i forgot to mention that. That'll most likely fix the issue Steve.

Thanks warcity and energynow. I think energynow's tip is likely to do the trick...I didn't realize that setting was specific to the key. Going to do some experimentation tonight.

Thumbs down Re: Can't get second key seat memory to work

Hi there,

I've same issu but... a little bit different: I'm not able to enable the second key via MMI, one key is ok no problem seting the option in MMi from "off" to "on" but on my second key the opption does not work, not allowing me to set it to "on".

Was to the dealer but they are clueless.

Is there a coding that i have to set (using Ross Vag interface)?
Thanks
Daniel

No coding required.

Try opening and unlocking the car with the second key then going into the options in the MMI.

Hi Daniel:

What do you mean by the above question?

My suggestion is the 2nd key you're having issues enabling, try unlocking the car with it turning on the ignition with it then go into the MMI to see if you see the option.

Also, make sure you consult the manual book.

lastly, each time you pick up your car from the dealer they give you a high-level over view of all the features. Each dealer offers a follow up session for free where they can go over "details" with you if need be. Something also to consider if necessary.

Cheers.
