Audi Q5 2010 Audio upgrade - non B/O speaker sizes issues
Hello,
I am planning an upgrade to OEM sound of an Audi Q5 2010 with the standard audio package (Not B/O unfortunately, I bought car aftermarket) but maintaining OEM HU intact. I have run into a speaker sizing issue.. see below
I have done research on the web into what is required… several write ups on Audi A4 upgrade but none specifically for the Q5. The Q5 is supposed to be the A4 with a different body… would expect most of the components to be shared as most are, so I began following these recommendations;
1) Line leveler / sound processor to integrate to OEM amp. I am looking at the JBL MS-8 for the capabilities of running the center channel directly off of it, while my front and rear door components will be powered by a 1200W D-class amp. Also the MS-8 seems to have a good write up.. I am interested to try it out.
2) Amplifier for the doors components… Kenwood Excelon XR-4S
3) Two way Component speaker for each of the four doors. According to most sources I have read they indicate that the Q5 uses 6 ½ “ in each of the doors….. here is my dilemma they do not appear to;
I opened up the first door panel to find out what was really in there and was somewhat surprised. I found a much larger (approx. 10”) shallow mount (4”) cheap Audi branded chinese woofer mounted in an all in one speaker/bracket to holes spaces 11 ½” diameter…. See the pictures attached.
What can I use to replace these speakers? I have already ordered some 6 ½ components which now I believe I will need to return for both size and depth requirements. Are there brackets out there for an Audi Q5 2010 to fit standard size speakers ? Not much info on the Q5 out there… some on the A4 which I though was similar, but apparently not.
Also, the door panel is made such that flush mounting from the front is not possible either due to being curved.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks
