5500 km on a new Q5 TDI and have to replace a knock sensor
Indicator came on a couple days ago and heard back from Audi that they need to replace the knock sensor. Since the part comes from Germany it will be a couple weeks but they said it is fine to drive with the indicator on.
Normally I would be fine with that except now if there is some other problem I will be oblivious as the indicator is already on.

The light will flash/blink instead of being solid if a problem is important enough to not drive the car. Same thing happened to my wifes jetta when it was first new. Took 8 weeks to get the sensor because the car was just out at the time and parts inventory hadn't caught up yet.

That actually makes me feel a lot better about it. I hadn't realized that it would actually blink under certain conditions.

No the vehicle is behaving same as usual... they cleared the error when they ran the diagnostic and it has not come back yet. They are going to replace the sensor all the same.

Re: 5500 km on a new Q5 TDI and have to replace a knock sensor
Service rep said "knock" which surprised me. Will wait and see when they complete the work what the part actually is. Knock sensors on diesels are not unheard of and you could influence engine knock through control of fuel mixture and injection timing and not just through ignition timing like in a gasoline engine.
Whether Audi is doing this or not on their 2014 diesels or not is another question... will let you know once this work is done.

LOL "knock sensor but really means oxygen sensor"
Oxygen sensor (or lambda sensor) is not the same as Nitrogen oxide sensor or NOX sensor
Knock sensor works like a microphone listening for detonation (knocking). As the name implies, it senses knocks in the engine.............
Totally different sensors with different functions: Oxygen sensor, NOX sensor, Knock sensor
