Default spark plugs

anyone have suggestions for performance spark plugs? I remeber using Bosch Platinum plugs a while back, but not sure what is available now or what would work best in my 4.2L V8. It has new ECU software, Unitronic Stage 1 upgrade.

I recently did a spark plug change and decided on the NGK plugs instead of the Bosch. Did some reading and it seems to be the prefered plug in the 4.2

Hi Mike. Thanks so much for the tip. I've never heard of NGK so I'm going to check them out.

I found a great place to get spark plugs! On-line at NGK Spark Plugs, Wire Sets and O2 Sensors, Denso Spark Plugs - ClubPlug CANADA and they also have a USA based website. I have no interest whatsoever in this firm, except that they have these NGK that everyone is recommending, with a great partfinder tool, excellent customer service and prices for these better plugs at 50% of dealer price - for same plug! Right now they even have free delivery in Canada and USA. I bought 8 NGK -part # 3199, Laser Platinum plugs for my 2000 A8. I'll let you know if I can feel any performance difference.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure if it was my imagination or not but when I changed plugs I noticed a difference in throttle response. I also did the fuel filter at the same time and also noticed a difference.

the NGK website indicates that with these high performance plugs that you should have better throttle response, quicker starts, better fuel economy, cleaner emissions and longer plug life. Sounds like you've experienced what they promised you should get. That's great.

You should consider changing the fuel filter as well. Its not a big dollar item and is easy to change yourself. Once again the manufacturer states that the fuel filter is "life time". Nothing is life time!!

I have heard of premature fuel pump failure due to the extra work the pump has to do due to a clogged filter. When I changed my filter I cut open the old one and couldn't believe how dirty it was. As a result I plan on changing the plugs and fuel filter every two years regardless of what is recommended.
