1st gear shunt at 2600 rpm (2004 Tip)
Morning start up, the first gear change from 1st to 2nd is a bit of a shunt. That's right, I spelled that with an "sh"
1st gear will rev to ~2600rpm before engaging 2nd gear, giving a bit of a kick. then every 1st to 2nd change after that is smooth.
It does seem to be a little less abrupt if I let the car idle for 10 minutes to start. but it is still there. but it makes no difference how quickly I accelerate the car, it always seems to be about 2600.
Audi told me it checked out the gear changes and it was ok, but after I pressed the matter, they told me it was an emmissions control feature??? Since when was whip lash a feature?
your Ideas & experience appreciated.
For the most part I've now resorted to changing gears with the tip till I get out of my street.

Dealer says they acknowledged that this was reproducable when they test drove it today - and that this is perfectly normal. Even though it is only on the initial start up acceleration.
They also said (again) that this is an emissions control setting and that there was a specific bulletin on this that they were going to show me. Dealer was closed when I picked up tonight, so I'll see if they have the facts correct when I go pay my bill tomorrow

82K and I just had the 85K service done last week to change air filter and oil etc
- previous service was 1 year ago at 76K. so there is not a lot of K's between service.
Amazingly the shunt is now gone away after my service and complaining. 1st to 2nd is now changing about 2000 rpm. Is it possible that the dealer just did some programing of the gear changes ? to make me go away? if so - its working and its definately better.
or is this likely something mechanical in nature to do with my oil or filter??
I would never have expected that.

And its back again - after just about 3 days of thinking it was gone - the shunt is back.
It must be the programing of the gear ratios? because for a few days it was shifting at much lower revs - then it all went south again!

Alright - I must be the only guy with this shunt. The fact that it only happens on the initial acceleration makes me think its something mechanical - I'll keep an eye on it as the weather improves.......maybe it will go away with warmer temps? TBD. For now - I'm stumped on this one and the dealer says it normal??
