New to my recently aquired A4 and already pulling the engine!!!
Hello, I just bought my very first Audi two days ago, and it's an '01 A4 Quattro 1.8T manual. I only paid $700 for it, but the down side is it needs an engine. I'm told by the previous owner the oil pump failed on the highway and the engine seized from lack of lubrication. But ran like a top before with no issues whatsoever. I'm sure the engine is cooked because when I pulled the oil level sensor i stuck my fingers inside and pulled out pieces of the main bearings . SO now I'm in the process of pulling the engine, and so far so good. When I first read that I would have to remove the whole front end, or front lock carrier I believe its called, I thought it would be a long and painful journey. But I researched a little and found it wasn't too daunting of a task. I've been working at it for 6 hours and I'm about ready to pull the lock carrier off now, so ill post some pics of my progress tomorrow. Hopefully if all goes well, I'll have the engine out by the end of this coming week. Just as a side note, does anyone know of anything I could be doing since I have the engine out? Performance/handling wise. I hope to convert it from AWD to RWD eventually and drift spec it out. I'm not new to modding so any ideas are welcome. And will the vag-com from my ex MK4 jetta I use to have work with my A4?
