Hey guys and girls... looking forward to finally owning another A
My first Audi was given to me and I was a real sceptic about it. It was a 86 4000CS Quattro 5cyl 5spd. Fully loaded with 430,000kms. I fell in love with this car and finally sold it at 520ish kms on it. I have to be honest I drove the crap out this car including rally style driving. This was on the origonal engine and tranny etc... It still ran strong and didn't burn a drop of oil. I was sold on the performance and durability that Audi can offer.
Since owning the 86 4000 CS Q I have never fogot about it. And have always wanted another Quattro. Had other cars and they never will meet up with the Audi.
I just recently bought a 1998 A4 1.8T Q loaded with 212,000kms on it. It is a auto with tip in it. I know Audi dropped a bit of there reliabilty in the newer Audi's but the performance and features are way nicer. Also being a mechanic and only paying 1000 bucks for it really helped out. Honestly I am REALLY excited about this car and can"t wait to start driving it. It doesn"t need much to get going. Kinda waiting to build it a bit before I do start driving it thou.
I will use the search funtion but, If anyone has any tips let me know. I know also that cheap and reliable and fast never work together, I'll pick two and one isn't listed... FAST AND PROBABLY EXPENSIVE!!! Hahaha This car will be a contendor and will preform since I do have a full machine shop at my disposal that specializes in performance and rebuilding engines. My only problem will be my bank account so I am looking for suspension, turbo and exhaust work. It will go up from there in stages.
Thanks for having me here and look forward to meeting you guys

Great to have you here. Glad you found us. I can't wait to follow your build. You should start a build thread and keep adding to it as you go along.
Congrats.

Welcome to the forum!
Can you be more specific as to what your performance goals are for this car? Having a clear upgrade path in mind will save you a lot of money and time in the long run. My first thought is sell it and buy a manual, especially if you really want to turn this car into a "contender" It sounds like you're a fairly performance-oriented driver, and an automatic tranny is going to have many drawbacks as compared to a manual (decreased control over the vehicle, drivetrain lag, reduced power-holding capabilities, reduced fuel economy, etc.).
With the 1.8T, the sky is the limit - a daily-drivable 600cHP is achievable in off-the-shelf kit, and you can go much higher than that if you want a purpose-built machine.
My advice: since you like to drive, don't dismiss the often-overlooked mod's. People generally pay attention to only power mod's and basic suspension upgrades, but things like great tires and performance wheel-alignment specs will yield a more competent vehicle. Some of my favourite mod's have been ones that are rarely mentioned - top-of-line tires, spherical bushings in the suspension, engine/tranny/differential mounts, lightweight wheels, a good wheel alignment, rear anti-sway, etc.
That said, good tires, a rear anti-sway bar, good coilovers, a turbo-back exhaust, and chip are a good place to start! Since you can do the work yourself, and have access to a machine shop, you might even think about boring/stroking to 2.0L (I'm a bad influence...don't talk to me if you want to save money ). You can go up to 2.2L, but 2.0L is fairly easy to do. I can get into specifics if you'd like; and, if you're interested in doing a build, I can help you with pretty much every aspect of it.

Thanks guys
Sounds like I need to check in with you alittle Cheeba. Got some good ideas so far and think we might be on the same track as far as a build. I am probably gonna keep the auto, it has tiptronic so not that bad I guess.
As far as stage one of my build I would like to do a wastegate and full exhaust as well as intake. And maybe a programmer. Suspension is a no brainer and good tires and wheels. Hahahaha, like I said we might be on the same track.
Good to hear 600hp is doable for a DD. I have it set in my mind to blow the doors off my brothers supercharged 5.0ltr mustang. His car is putting down 496 detuned at the wheels.
As soon as I have the car in my driveway I will get pics and then I can start to work on it. I just bought it on Sunday in Merritt and am picking it up this Saturday. At that point I will start a build thread and we can go from there.

Here is a pic of the car as I bought it... it was sitting for over a year with a toast battery and flat tires. No biggie
Only paid 1000 bucks and it runs and drives good. Will need some kind of TLC thou. Hahahahahaha, I'm sure I can deal with that for a grand in so far.

For you to even come close to beating up on a 500wHP 5.0L car, you're going to have to ditch the auto, or have it custom built. I don't know exactly what the limitation of that particular auto is, but I'd be surprised if anything over 300wHP is going to last long.
I'm here for ya' anytime you need help! One condition: if you turn it into a beast, you have to give me a ride! I'm usually in Salmon Arm once a year...

Damn, I was hopeing to keep an auto. I have driven stick my whole life and was looking forward to the tiptronic auto. Well I think I will build this one anyway and when it starts getting crazy I will pull all the parts and put them into a stick car and return this one back to stock and sell it. Might take me a bit to get to 300whp anyway. or maybe I'll be okay with topping out at 300 and blow the tranny then just build the heck out of it and keep going.

Re: Hey guys and girls... looking forward to finally owning anoth
or, once you blow the tranny, buy a manual tranny and do a swap... many people have swapped manuals into their cars to ditch the slushbox. if you are going that far into a build anyway, a tranny swap will not be that big a deal.
