Hi everyone! New to the forum and I am about to import my TT from the states, and was told that the Cnd bumper was not necessary when importing into Alberta, just wanted to see if anyone had any idea about this, because I also heard that you must put a new front bumper on before RIV would let you register it. Thanks for the help!

Just to add to the thread (which has provided invaluable insight - thanks) RIV import list indicates that 00 TTs additionally require changing the seats to accommodate car-seat tethers. Anyone run into this?

Regarding the bumper standard proposal: the 30 days review period has passed. Anyone know if the new rule has passed or not?! I m looking to buy a TT from the states for a while, but have been stopped by the $5000 extra bumper replacement cost (and all the trouble)...

The proposed amendment was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I on March 22, 2008. Canadians have 30 days in which to review the proposed amendment and respond to it. The Government of Canada would then review the comments in order to develop a final amendment for publication in the Canada Gazette, Part II.

No idea what if anything has transpired. In any case I spoke to my broker in Vancouver - who brings in cars for me from US dealer wholesale auctions in Nevada and Arizona - and he said they can get the bumper conversion done under $1,500. Obviously that's far less than the $5,000 number that's been thrown around here lately. I'm going to give it a few more weeks before bringing one in to see what happens with this amendment, otherwise I can deal with the $1,500 hit. For 5k I wouldn't bother.

Thumbs up Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers

Hi everyone,
This site has been so helpful. I just bought my TT in the States and I really do not know what to do.
I want to bring it ASAP but $4000 for the bumper modification is really painful. I hope this amendment is positive for us.
Just in case: Let me know if somebody is selling some modified bumper or where can I have the modifications done for $1500.
Please e-mail me to :
pc.manitoba@hotmail.com
Thanks

Really wanting to bring a TT into Alberta but cannot stand to be bent over paying 5k for a bumper mod that is completely unnecessary!

Thanks.

Wow I am so happy to find this forum. I nearly bought a 2004 TT 3.2 roadster yesterday and knew nothing about the bumpers. What the hell did we do before the internet. I was just wondering if there has been any updates with the laws. I have imported cars before and this is completely ludicris. I was quoted 1600 from a broker so not that big a deal.

Any updates on the bumper laws??

It is may 24th today

my email is darrencole@shaw.ca

Live in BC

Thanks again guys
