TT importation _ question re bumpers

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
Don't hold your breath waiting for our government to move quickly on any issue let alone bumper regs. However, there is some light after reading this article, this would certainly lower the price of all our new cars.

Ummm.....where will you be driving? In the states or Canada? I guess the obvious question would be why or who would insure you through the states if you reside in Canada? I believe if you're showing a Canadian address (citizen), you may run into problems.

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
sorry - what I meant was, can I shop around for a nice TT in the states, plunk down my money and see if I canhave my Canadian insurer cover it and drive it to the border or must I use a shipper to deliver it from the vendor to the border.

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
Yes, you can most definately shop in the states for a TT and plunk your money down and drive it back - BUT you'll have to give the border 3 days to get paperwork ready and have a clear title in your name or they'll hold it there (on state side).......speaking from experience.
I chose to use a shipper and my brother picked his up. Insurance shouldn't be a problem through your agent as long as you notify them of what you're doing. They may need the particulars ie: VIN, bill of sale, and copy of title. If you would like to talk about the process, just IM me.

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
I've heard that the 2008 TT doesn't require the bumper mods (supposedly Audi USA will provide a letter confirming the car meets Cdn standards (8km crash test) - they need VIN and will only send the letter the title-holder though).
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
I would be most interested to know if the 08 TT requires bumper mods. I just looked at an 08 loaded here in Canada that was imported from the States. The car was sold, the dealer was awaiting word from RIV before releasing the car to the customer. He told me he would pay for any mods that were necessary as per RIV. He is to email me once they receive word, I will let you know.
By the way the car I looked at was priced at $48,900 CDN 08 TT 3.2 loaded nav, baseball interior and convertible. Same car in Canada $70K plus, ouch. The car was a Audi head office car with 16K.

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
I just received this morning the Letter from Audi detailing the bumper modifications required for Canada for the 2008 TT 2.0 Coupe I just purchased from the US. It is ONLY the front bumper for this new body style. Quoted as per the letter:
Front bumper - replaced with part number 8J0 807 105 B (bumper cover)
Front bumper impact beam bracket - replaced with part number 8J0 807 109 A
I have not received the RIV letter yet but I assume it will be the same as the Audi letter. I'll post again if the RIV letter says anything different. An initial quote from an Ottawa Audi dealer for this work is $2400. Has anyone been quoted anything lower for this work? Just wondering if prices might be more competitive in Toronto area.

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
Thanks for the info - very helpful. I am in the process of importing a 2008 3.2 coupe. I am waiting for a quote re bumper mods from a couple of Audi dealers in SWO. Will advise...
What info did you need to give Audi to get the bumper mod specs letter? Who provided the letter? Audi USA or Canada?

Re: TT importation _ question re bumpers
You have to fax in a copy of the Title (front and back). The Title document I have has the name of the dealership typed on the front and on the back they have signed it over to me. It's the back side with both buyer and seller details that is the key piece they need. I called both the US and Cdn 1800 #'s through the whole process (trying to verify the very vague information they provide) and it sounds to me like they are all sent to the same customer care centre. Until you can show you have Title of the vehicle they are very vague in their responses (not sure if you have experienced this). I faxed through the Title on Monday and received a fax back this Fri am. They tell you it will take 7-10 business days but it seems they are actually a bit quicker than that.
I'd be interested to know what quotes you get back on the 3.2. Once you have the Audi letter, can you pls let me know if it's the same two part numbers to be replaced that way I can tell if I'm comparing apples to apples with the quote I received.
