Replacing the head unit and looking for Tire deals
I have more questions...the saga continues....
1) I am thinking about doing an OEM upgrade where I replace the cassette radio head unit in my TT with an Audi concert radio single CD unit. I do have a changer in the back which I would like to keep operational.
Is this possible? Is it simply taking one out and putting the other one in it's place? Does it matter that I have the BOSE system?
Pics attached show a deck similar to the one I have in my car and the one I want to install.
2) Anyone know of deals going on right now? I want a set of new 235/35/R19 tires to wrap around the rims I bought. Ideas?
As always, I am grateful for all the feedback!

Re: Replacing the head unit and looking for Tire deals
In retrospect, after looking at the pics, if that first one is exactly the same deck I already have....and they both say concert on them.....everything I read tells me it's a simple swap.

The stock head units are a little lacking in audio quality - is there a reason you don't want to go aftermarket? Trying to retain the OEM look?

Exactly, I like the OEM look as well as the fit and finish. Do you have the Concert II deck in your audi? Did you swap it out for an aftermarket one?

Re: Replacing the head unit and looking for Tire deals
I have a Concert II, but it was the stock deck. I have an Alpine sitting in my closet waiting for install. I'm also quite picky about disrupting the flow of the interior of my vehicles; however, the need for an iPod connection, the desire for better sound quality, and the fact that the TT has a cover that conceals the HU made me decide to switch.
There are decks out there that have lighting schemes that match the TT interior quite well.

Cheeba,
Thanks for the advice, can you recommend a deck that fits in with the TT interior (similar color lights etc)?
I'm not against aftermarket if it makes a substantial difference. Have you swapped out the head unit yet? Anyone done this and noticed a dramatic difference?

Re: Replacing the head unit and looking for Tire deals
I'll be installing an Alpine CDA-9857 right away here. Also, it's a difference in impedance (ohms) that speakers have - I think the stock Bose are 2ohm and the non-Bose are 4ohm, but I'm not sure on that. A change in impedance will affect the total volume the system is capable of; and, you'll need to ensure your head unit and amp can handle the new ohm rating.
The best deck I've seen for the TT is the Becker Grand Prix, but it is like $600+ (note S2000 start button - kind of pointless, but nice implementation):
You could also try Sony Xplod, as the red is a close match to the red VAG uses in their instruments. I had an Xplod in my previous car, a MKIV Golf. A regular DIN deck will require the following for installation: Metra 99-9100 Faceplate, Metra 70-1787 Harness, Metra 40-VW53 Antenna Booster. You'll need to splice the Metra harness into your OEM harness to run the new deck.
If you want to take the easy way out, I'll sell you my Symphony II for whatever the going rate is

haha, nice one Cheeba. I probably would have in a instant a few weeks back but you may have convinced me otherwise...but...what is the condition? Do you have pics? What were you hoping to get for it?
Is the concert II not a BOSE unit? I was under the impression that the concert is the bose unit with tape deck and the concert II is the same but with a CD player.
