Issue: central locking system control module
hello all...I have an 04 TT roadster. And it's basically a huge paperweight in my driveway currently,and has been for 2 1/2 weeks now. It just wont start. Had the issue once before,but within a week it corrected itself. Apparently this module is missing from my car when i bought it used,and the key will sometimes work,but sometimes not as there is nothing to code it to anymore. Due to unemployment,i am now going to sell my car, but according to Audi, this is almost $800 for the module/labour before tax !!
I would hate to spend more money on it again, as i will lose it once it sells, so my question is: Is there a way to bypass this to get it to start? Is there a wire i can cut that will disable the feature. I cant even get it started to take it to Audi to get fixed. I would like to know if anyone can suggest something for this, in laymans terms if possible, as I'm mechanically uninformed.

The only info I have is this below hope it's of some use, sorry couldn't help any more only to suggest getting a scan done, it may show up something . [smiley=book2.gif]

MK1 TT KEY INFORMATION
CODING PHASES
There are 2 seperate parts of the Audi TT that require coding-1) the remote fob, 2) the key.
CODING REMOTE FOB
You will need BOTH of your "switchblade" keys to reprogram one or both of them.
1. Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward.
2. Close and lock the drivers door with the second key.
3. On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked
4. With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.
5. Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions.
6. Open drivers door, remove key from ignition.
If both of your remotes don't work, do the above for the first key, but on step #3, press the 'UNLOCK' button twice. The lights will flash twice, then continue on with step #4.
Coding Key to immobiliser- in order to enable car to start
Step 1- extracting SKC code
SKC code info
Prior to 2002, some vehicles were delivered with a scratch-off panel on a plastic tag that contained the 4 digit PIN code. Starting in 2002, dealerships implemented the WIN2 system to provide SKC's to their technicians and customers. Starting April 1, 2005, VW/Audi dealerships switched to the new GEKO system, whereby their factory scan tools dial up the factory while connected to a car. Under this system, the technician no longer sees the SKC at all and you will need to bring your vehicle into the dealer to have Immobilizer work performed.
If you have your SKC code please skip this section. If not you can extract it from your dash using VAGTACHO- the cable and software is available from EBAY fr less than £20, but is likely to be a Chinese copy of the original software.
1) Plug vagtacho cable in to OBDII port.
2) Start vagtacho software up
5. Select “Magnetti Marelli Audi after 2000 year” from the “Select ECU” menu and click “Connect”.
4. Click “Read PIN”
5. If it cannot get a PIN an error message will be displayed. Choose “Magnetti Marelli Audi M73 V1” or “Magnetti Marelli Audi M73 V2” and try again. “Magnetti Marelli Audi M73 V2” worked with my new clocks and “Magnetti Marelli Audi after 2000 year” worked with my old clocks. If none of them can get a PIN then check everything to do with your setup – check the cable appears in device manager etc!
6. Once you have the 4 digit PIN, e.g. 4321 remove the VAG TACHO cable and connect VAG COM for the next phase.
IMMOBILISER KEY CODING USING VAG COM
Requires a full version of VAGCOM ( or if your naughty a cracked version )
Plug in your VAGCOM lead and fire up the software.
1. [Select]
[17 - Instruments]
[Login - 11]
[Use 4-digit PIN/SKC]
Enter the 4-digit PIN, add a leading 0 ie 04321 [OK]
2. VAG-COM will validate the data you have entered and return you to the Login screen, where the Login Code will show as "XXXXX".
[Do It!]
3. [Adaptation - 10]
Enter 21 in "Channel Number"
[Read]
The "Stored Value" is the number of keys currently matched.
Enter "new value" of 0
[Save]
This clears out the old key-matchings.
Enter a "new value" corresponding to the total number of keys to be matched, including any existing keys
[Save]
4. [Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Switch ignition off and remove key
5. Insert next key to ignition and switch ignition on again. The warning light for the Immobilizer will light up for ~2 seconds, then go out. Switch ignition off and remove key
6. Repeat step 5 with each key until all keys have been matched.
Your key should now start the car
If you don’t have VAGCOM or VAGTACHO most auto locksmiths can code your key for very little.

many thanks hiram for the detailed response to help. unfortunately, i have no control module, and cannot therefore code the key to anything, and also cannot unlock any trunk release or gas cap or door for that matter. everything is done manually. i was looking for a possible bypass of this security feature, something that will allow me to get my car started so i can go to audi for the big,expensive fix. thanks anyway, appreciated the try.

That feature is there to prevent people from stealing the car. With that said I think it could be possible as crooks have their ways, it is unfortunate of your situation but you will most likely have to tow the car to the dealer.
