clock and odo reset every time
Okay, I am installing an aftermarket stereo in my 2001 tt coupe (u.s. version) and have run into a snag. I've managed to get sound and reception but now every time I turn the key off and back on the clock is reset (the odo is zero as well, but I haven't driven it so I assume it's resetting each time also). If I leave the key in the on position (vehicle is not running just switched to on so radio works) the clock starts to keep time, 00:01, 00:02, etc... but the second I turn it off and then back to on again (again not starting the vehicle) the clock reads 00:00!!! It's making me crazy. I\ve searched forums and can't find anything, but maybe I'm not using the right search words???? The only thing I have found is relating to the battery. That being said, I haven't driven the car in a few weeks and because of that and installing the new radio hu I've had a trickle charger hooked up to the battery in order to prevent drain. I haven't dissconnected the trickle charger and I've checked the fuses and they all seem okay. Does it have something to do with the battery??? Did I fry it some how? Even though it seems fine without the trickle charger on it? Or am I not hooking up a wire from the factory harness that is required? I can't see anything on the pin out diagram that makes sense that it would maintain constant power to the radio on the instrument cluster except for (clock signal for radio grequency display on instrument cluster) and (clock signal for CD display on instrument cluster) and I tried powering both with a constant source but the darn thing still resets! There are many wires from the factory harness not in use from the main 20 connector plug and none from the red plug with three wires on it and the stereo is working great, just not the darn clock and odo!!! Very frustrating. Hoping I'm just missing something obvious because I'm strained from staring at all the wires hanging out.... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

*** Problem solved. LOL! It wasn't the fuse, but it was a loose wire behind the fuse that I must have knocked. Stupid...stupid...stupid... Cars are my passion and my pain!

Just out of curiosity what deck did you install and how is your reception? Any pics? I'm trying to decide between new head unit or just adding dice ipod adaptor.

Re: clock and odo reset every time
I put in a JVC kd-avx77. It's awesome! I even installed a back up camera to go with it. Works great. Reception is excellent (not that it was easy the stupid adapter didn't want to cooperate. I had to really play around with the connection and then tape it in place). It was a real b***h to install though. Barely fit in the opening. Had to recut to loose excess wire. Had to take apart center console and pull out temperature controls to pull back extra wires from underneith and behind just to squeeze the deck back in far enough that the metal cover would close. Took me 5 days working on and off. Basically when I got frustrated enough I quit for the day and came back with a fresh set of eyes the next day. Still, all that being said, I'm very happy with how it is working. I'm able to stream very easily from my phone and use it as a hands free. I'm able to watch dvd's and listen to the tuner easily. I tried hooking up a usb hard drive but it wasn't seeing any music (i'm assuming because it was in folders and not the root directory, but I'm not sure). I'm going to try putting some songs in the root directory and see. If it works like it's supposed I have a 640gb hard drive that will be in the console under neither the ash tray that will have all my music, some pictures of my kids (because I can use the pictures as backghrounds) and some videos. With any luck I'll be able to download my news podcasts to the hard drive at night and listen to it on my hour and a bit drive to work. All in all.... lots of frustration, but I'm very happy with the end results. Check out the deck online. It's expensive, but it does everything.
