Default DIY: Power sunroof reset procedure

Procedure is only for an already installed sunroof, (for new sunroof contact me)
1) Remove the interior light. Leave the rotary switch connected. Set the rotary switch to position one or two(comfort or fully open positions). During opening of the sunroof panel, remove the power supply plug of the sunroof motor. Switch off the ignition and remove the key.

2) Turn the sunroof rotary switch to position zero (closed). wait 30 seconds. Reconnect power supply plug to the motor and switch on ignition.

3) Turn the rotary switch quickly from closed to any open position and go back to closed position. Wait until the sunroof panel is closed and the clicking of the relay can be heard from the sunroof motor

4) within the next 5 seconds, pull the rotary switch (pull the lug of the ****). Hold the pulling function until the sunroof tilts, opens, and returnes to the closed position. It may take 8-10 seconds for roof movement to commence.

5) after the programming switch off the ignition for at least 15 seconds.

6) Check sunroof's functions,

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

Hi 1Move,
I am a newby to this forum so you will have to bear with me. I have a '98 A4 with a sunroof that opens/closes/and generally has fits without warning. So much so that I have pulled the fuse. You talk about cleaning the contacts-where in the assembly are they and how do I get at them? Should I thenfollow the reset sequence set out on your post? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

to clean out the contact you basically pull the assembly out and the switch and clean the switch contacts with alcohol

I realize this is a very old thread, but what is the point of this reset procedure (ie. what situations would you need to use it in)?

In some cases battery reset, can screw it up but very rarely. It is mostly for when the motor gets replaced or the sunroof rails or proper operation open/close fails
