Default Wipers stop in Middle

I own a 2005 A4 avant 1.8t. The wipers worked fine until last week when they started parking 1/2-way up the windshield. They work fine, and go all the way down when they sweep, but always park 1/2 way up whether on intermittent or turned off. Does this sound like and arm adjustment I can do or a motor-problem? If motor, is it likely to be covered under the mfg. warranty? Thanks

sounds like it slipped. Might be just a loose connection on the wiper motor side. I can take a look at it if you'd like.

I had a frozen wiper socket, took it all apart and freed up the socket & linkage, but whenI put it all back together, the wipers stop in the middle of windshield. They go all the way down and up when in the ON position, but intermittent and off position they go to the middle? I was pretty careful when disassembling and even made reference marks at each joint prior to diaassembly. Don't know what's going on. Anybody know?

This may be completely off base but for my 09 Avant, there is a "service mode" in MMI that stops the wiper in the middle position. Did you by any chance turn that on?

Now that was brilliant.
Why not use an OEM VAG tool and perform an output check at Central Electrics address 09. Scroll through the screens till you find the wiper section. From there, you can command the wipers to all speeds. If parking is not available, there could be two faults. The initial wiper position is at fault. Sometimes the wipers sticking to the screen or freezing will move the initial set position. The other is the park micro-sensor sensor doesn't see that position.

In rare cases, the wiper controller has corrupt data. In that case, remove both battery cables and short them together. That will dissipate capacitance learned values. Test again and if the condition is repeated....

1. Remove both arms and inspect the splines
2. Mark the side of each spline
3. Engage the wiper motor and let it park
4. Inspect the mark on the spline. If the mark moved, it was out of phase
5. If it didn't move, remove the wiper assembly and check the wiper transmission.
6. If the transmission passes, you'll need to replace the motor assembly
