Smile General Question. S4 - A4 dilemma.

Hello everyone..

I have a basic question that I am sure many of you will be able to shed alot of light on. I am looking to pick up my first audi in the next few weeks. I have been leaning towards a 2006 A4 2.0T (manual) but spent alot of time before driving my friends b7 s4. Despite the b7 s4 being out of my price range, I have looked and would be able to pick up a 2004 (b6) S4 with approx 70,000 miles.

My real question is what would be the advice on buying a 2006 A4 with approx 60k miles vs a 2004 S4 with 70k.

What are the common problems faced by both vehicles at this range and in the near future.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

**Side note, I live in Canada so weather plays a factor**

Finally, was also looking at TT's in the (2002-2005) range. I know this adds a big dimension to the question but anyone that feels like takling that one go ahead! Id be happy to read the response.

Thanks to all those that reply

The A4 and S4 are completely different cars. Is fuel economy something that rates as important to you, if it is, stop looking at the 4.2 S4 right now. If you are not concerned about economy your decision is tougher. I am partial to FI cars so would probably choose the A4 with the 2.0t

Thanks for the reply.

Gas consumption is not a sticking point for me, I dont really do that much driving daily and this car is much more for fun and driving then it is commuting and hauling.

That said,

could you elaborate about why you prefer the A4?

I like Forced Induction cars (FI), since the A4 has a nice little turbo just begging to be swapped for something bigger, I would choose the A over the S. If you really want an S, I knwo where there is one for sale 2004 red 6mt avant at a great price

I'd get the S4. Yes, it has a gas guzzling oil burning V8, but..it's got a 340 HP V8!!. I have a 2004 3.0 Audi A4, and it's a very slow car.... I wish I got the S4.....

S4 is a lot better in sport field. They just share same chassis, but the engine, suspension, trim etc are different. If you don't care about fuel economy much, i would go for the S-line vehicle its a head turner

So what did you end up getting, the A or the S?

If you got the S good for you because that would have been my choice. There is nothing that will sound like or replace the V8.

Let us know and post some pic?

Thanks for brining me back to this thread! I apprecaite all the imput and honestly I would have loved to get this S4 as I am 100% with your thoughts on the V8 I decided on an a4 that fit the bill.

So in the end its a 2006 A4quattro manual with premium and tech packs and 49,000 km's.

Please give your thoughts and since I have had it its now badgeless. Looking for shoes now as well as thoughts on a lip spoiler? (just the little trunk lip one..)
