Engine Noise After Cam Shaft Replacement - A4 2.0T 2006
Hey Guys,
I don't post on this forum very often, but I'm not sure where else to go. A couple of weeks ago, I ended up having to get some major engine work done on my Audi A4 2.0. My cam follower had basically been shredded and launched into various parts of my engine. This forced me to get both of my cam shafts replaced, along with the fuel pump and a bunch of other parts. Luckily this was all covered by warranty, because apparently there was a recall on this type of cam follower in 2007 (I saved myself $5000).
Anyhow, after driving it for a couple of weeks, I've noticed that the original issues were fixed, but now I notice a very loud noise coming from my engine whenever it starts. I just got back from a short road trip and it was very evident whenever I started my car for the past three mornings. Here is a video that I took of the issue:
Hopefully someone here could help!
Thanks,
Corey

I would stop driving it immediately and call whoever fixed and tell them they need to take another look at it. What that noise is... sounds dreadful. Are you driving it like this?

I haven't stopped driving my car because the noise only happens from a cold start. After driving for a few minutes it goes away. I brought it to the dealership that fixed it yesterday, and they told me that its normal to happen... The mechanic said that it might be the cam chain tensioner, but it isn't anything serious. I wasn't impressed with his response.

OK let me tell, you if they told you that this noise is normal (which it totally is not) or accetable they're screwing you. The timing chains and tensioners are hand in hand with the cam shaft fix. They've screwed something up and aren't owning up to it. I would go and have a few other mechanics look at it and I would also call the better buisness bureau. It sounds like you're going to need them.
The tensioners / timing went on my B6 S4 back in December and I ended up having to sell the car as is. A new engine and install was like $7000
