Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Warranty Extension

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Warranty Extension
Received a letter from Audi Canada in regards of malfunctioning of CTS – well known problem for years. (signed by M.Trahan-same person signed for Audi America).
Spoke to the dealers and guess what?
The replacement will be done only if MIL (Check Engine Light) is on for long.
Erratic temperature gauge behavior is not considered as reason for replacement.
TDC are considered only at the point of inspection at the dealership?!
I’m wondering if I misunderstand the letter, how the CTS functions or there is something I’m missing..
Please share your opinion end experience

Re: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Warranty Extension
I understood it to read that Audi was complying with modern vehicle emissions standards of 10 years or 160K KMs. Audi has extended the warranty coverage of the Engine Coolant Temp sensor because if it fails, MIL will be ON and vehicle can fail an emissions test. They will even cover your cost if ECT had previously failed off warranty.
ECT failed on the A6 last year and was covered under CPO for $50 deductible, along with some other saved up bits. The ECT part is $50 and fairly easy to install
