Re: Definition and proper use of the term ''Ricer''
You know...similar things can be said about tattoos, dying your hair, piercings and the type of clothes you wear. All cosmetic with no function whatsoever...but we as humans live for it because it allows us to express ourselves to a greater extent. But getting back to cars...seeing as it is a car forum:
Maybe we should eliminate all forms of aftermarket wheels unless they're lighter and more rigid than OEM. Because they really serve no purpose except to enhance the look of a vehicle otherwise.
And what about pedal covers? I can heel and toe in any car out there...so what's the point of those?
Any rear spoiler unless tested in a wind tunnel to reduce lift is pointless apart from adding weight, so lets get rid of those too.
I really don't understand why a certain portion of the "car community" goes out of their way to hate on other people. It's like car racism and it sucks *****. I don't like any overdone car more than the next guy out there but there are a lot of "race inspired" things that I like seeing on cars because it sets them apart and if done tactfully, it gives the car a very unique look.
If everyone went for the "OEM plus" look out there, I'm sure some people would love it...but that's like saying every girl should have "x" colour hair, "x" size *****, and measure "X by X by X". Gimme a break, seriously. Go up to a friend of yours next time and tell him you think his girlfriend is ugly. One of his criteria in picking her was that he liked how she looked.
Quick to judge.
As far as putting hardware to the test, I'm running an '01 stg 3 s4, with cosmetic upgrades. All wrenched and fabbed by my hands. No one touches my car but me, from welding to painting to bolting or unbolting. So i'm pretty damn proud of it. And the hardware that went into it is nothing to laugh at.
I respect individuality. I may not like some of the ways it's portrayed, but I respect it.

...everyone is entitled to their views and opinions that's what a public forum is all about.
Hey to each his own however many of us do share the same views regardless how ''open minded'' you consider yourself to be. Heck maybe this guy is also normal to you what do I know lol

kbonarek, anytime one makes an observation of humans it's a generalization, and obviously isn't true for all cases. I can say that men are physically stronger than women, and I would be generally correct, but incorrect in some instances. I think you know that we are not referring to people like you - at least I'm certainly not - but to the person that is all show and no go. The kind of guy (and more and more frequently, women now too) that has their FWD econobox bedecked with pointless 'race-inspired' mods, yet is bone stock save for the obnoxious muffler and K&N filter that they think nets them 25wHP...
Anyway, kudos to you for doing all your own work

...I used to be one of them back in the days with my SI Vtech SI and that annoying P FLow that made more noise than anything else.
When entering a tunnel you would think it was a vette when my car was barely going forward lol

Re: Definition and proper use of the term ''Ricer''
I always thought a "ricer" not only involved useless modifications but also the cheapest available.
But you can't always call everything useless. Such as a spoiler on a RWD car, even if it may not reduce lift, it could add to the weight on the rear wheels thus giving it better traction off the line.

p.s. I'm willing to bet a Coke those are hood latches for a CF hood on the R8 5.2 in that pic. It is like the part on the R8 LMS car, which is a CF hood that comes off via unlocking two top latches rather than a heavy cable/hood latch.
as far as the definition of rice, I think it's anything cheap and or tacky to do with modding cars. Generally, small displacement JDM cars but the Neon scene is not immune from this terrible affliction. Nor are the germans...I've seen enough 'eyelids', spoilers and superfluous vents on Audis and BMWs to make your head spin.
Back to proper rice...this guy's exhaust is rice. If anyone has heard my 4.2 with 2.5" xpipe Fast Intentions catback, it's a reasonably strong sound...but in this video you can't hear a peep out of my car over the din coming from the ricer fartcan on this likely otherwise bone stock Civic.

just noticed kbonarek's avatar. Now I see why he's defending vents and stuff
chacun son gout as they say. I bet he can't stand my boring car!
In any event, a nogaro B5 with K04s is pretty badass.
