contemplating getting a used A6 or A8
Hi, I am James from Toronto On.
May I please ask for your opinions?
Currently I drive a bmw 325 4dr (2006,leased) and I am trying to get out of the Lease,
paying all the penalties that I owe(13 months left, driven 72k in 2 yrs).
I am interested in used 2005or6 A6 or A8 with less than 100k km (60k mile) of mileage because of the bigger interior space and Quattro(it snows quite alot in Toronto).
But the only concern that I have is;
I've heard that audi's are such a nice cars but might have more problems as it gets old.
And Audi must cost more $$ than Japanese cars after the warranty is gone
Would you recommend a used a6 or a8 if they are under 30,000 Canadian Dollars ?
Thank you~!

You pay to play. Audi are so nice inside, the materials, the ride, the looks, the lines.... Best looking design on the road right now IMO. There isn't an Audi model that is not beautiful. Can't say that for any other manufacturer. They're no more than a Bimmer to repair or maintain, may be a little more than their Japanese competition. If a car is not such an emotional purchase I would pick a Camry or an Accord. They're good Taxi cabs in some country for good reasons. They're every where in Toronto. But for 30K I get a Buick Lucerne before I go get a Camry.

Audi's are the most technologically advanced car for the price on the planet. That technology has it's ups and downs. The upside is the best ride, traction, safety etc. The down side is the complexity that is expensive to repair. But no more so than a BMW or Benz. My friend has a BMW 325xi, that is easily in the shop more often that any of my Audi's have been.
However, avoid the big Audi V8, it is a thirsty engine and the smaller engines have more power than we can use in Canada
Good Luck

If you did that you'd be missing out on the best Audi engine. Ive had the 1.8, 2.8, 2.7, and the 4.2. the 4.2 is absolutely better than the others. Im not sure about the C6, but in the C5s, the 4.2 was a much better car as well...........

Re: contemplating getting a used A6 or A8
I purchased an 06 A6 3.2 earlier this year to replace my 01 A6 4.2. First thing, bank on at least one $600 to $1000 repair bill. Here is the good news, you probably will only have one for the next two to three years. They may be expensive to fix, but unlike the other guys you only have to fix them a couple of times (at least that has been my experience).
Second I was struggling on getting the 4.2 vs the 3.2 (back when gas was $1.30), I did the "green" thing and went 3.2. Although I miss the neck snap when I hit the gas, the overall performance of the 3.2 is comparable to the 4.2. And getting 700kms to a tank vs. 450 sure put's a smile on your face!
