I went to the dealer to ask unrelated question and he told me there is software upgrade for my A3 dual clutch s-tronic transmission, so the next time I am in their shop they would push this software through. Reading notes above makes me worried that something similar would happen to my car too, even though I am perfectly happy with how it shifts now.
Any experience with A3 s-tronic upgrade, anyone?

I'm scheduled for the same A3 upgrade described by A-Teck... I too am now concerned about the upgrade. I will ask what it is for when I drop the car off (next week) and post what it's all about.

A-teck, I had the software upgrade on my S-tronic A3 a few days ago and so far so good. I'm happy with the results and the shifts feel crisper and smoother in auto mode. In manual mode it feels roughly the same. It definitely doesn't feel laggy or sluggish with the A3 software upgrade - obviously I can't comment on the OP's A4 situation... difference might be due to 8 speed trans A4 vs. 6 speed trans A3

Good to know. Mine will be due for a 8,000km maintenance in a month or two and I was a bit concerned with the outcome of the tranny upgrade.

Thumbs down Re: Beware of the 8 speed auto software upgrade!

Hello BillR, I'm so sorry I did not read your post before getting the software update....what the heck they have ruined my Q5...i told them that that was not the drive I paid for and they told me they couldn't undo the upgrade. I complained and the service manager told me to follow-up with him that he placed a call to Audiland to see what could be done to make the ride feel as sporty as it was...I will keep you posted and please the same. Thanks.

Just got my A3 back after service including transmission software upgrade. No issues for DSG S-tronic

My apologies for getting back to this thread. Frankly, I was a bit embarrassed and hoped that it would just fade away into thread history. Here's what eventually happened.

Through the sales people at St. James Audi I was finally connected with the After Sales Manager of Audi Canada. He went to the people in Germany who assured him that shifts had not been "elongated", and that what I was experiencing was the adaptive software reverting back to it's base state. Well, I've been wrong more than once in my life, so I took him at his word an decided to go out and try teaching the transmission to shift the way that I wanted. I spent almost an hour on quiet regional highways doing acceleration runs from 0 to 100 with moderate throttle application - that is half to two thirds. Somewhere in there it figured out what wanted and those nice crisp shifts came back!

Now, I don't think you'd need to do as many runs as I did to get the software to adapt, I just kept it up that long to be sure. With daily stop and go driving it eventually starts to get sluggish again, but a few moderate sprints puts it back again.

Mgm1932, I hope that you can get yours back to the way that you liked it by a similar exercise.

For the record, after I got the transmission back to the way that I liked, I called the After Sales guy back and apologized. Then I went down to the dealership and apologized to the Service Manager and the sales people for being such a pain and not listening to them.

I hate being one of "those people" who get on the Internet and rant when they have a problem. Sometimes it's justified, but in this case it wasn't. This time it was the nut holding the wheel that was the problem!

Happy driving,
Bill

Glad it was all cleared out. It would have been nice, however, if people at the dealership knew this right away.
