A4 2008 camshaft + pump + engine broken 90,000 miles
I have A4 2008, 90,000 miles.
Camshaft broke on highway without warning, taking down pump and damaging engine that needs to be replaced.
Towed the car to the Audi dealer where I do all maintenance: 1,000 $ for towing + 10,000 $ for engine replacement, no support from Audi.
I read about a lot of similar problems in forums, but only models 2004 to 2007 have extension of warranty.
Any suggestion?

I have read twice (don't know of this personally/first hand) on various forums that if you treat the dealership well (don't get angry, bad mouth them on the internet, etc...) and have had a good relationship, they may go to bat for you with Audi. Not sure how often this happens.
But... the best deal they got was 50% off so you're still looking at a $5,500 bill (or more). Is it worth it? What's you car valued at?

Thianks for comment: I had heard same thing... From other dealerships. the relation with dealership was excellent but they did not do anything despite all maintenance done with them.
Same for Audi head office (they proposed 1500 $ credit on my next car purchase!!!!). Everybody is telling me that the break down is abnormal, but nobody at Audi is taking responsibility.
I thought I had purchased a premium product with premium service but ended up with neither. Car valued at 22G - no choice but to make repair.
Based on this very poor experience, I would not advise to buy Audi - the car was nice until problem, and then a real nightmare.

You may want to look for a used engine - much less $. Audi typically puts in brand new which is great for the car but not great for the pocketbook. You could look at it that your new engine is going to last for another 10+ years at least (can lightening strike twice?). Will help in resale or pass it on to your children...
Also try another dealership, if possible.
To be honest, I have never heard of a cam shaft breaking. Cam bearings - yes.
So that's bad luck in itself. For it to then take out the entire engine is incredible. What was damaged on the engine? Head only I would guess? Can they not just replace the head?
Are there parts on it that are salvageable? Which engine is it?
