2013 Audi R8 to lose manual gearbox
According to Car magazine, the 2013 Audi R8 facelift will be fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission instead of the sequential six-speeder, the improved MMI hard- and software we know from the latest A6, and power output of the V10 increases from 525bhp to 540bhp.
In addition, in 2014 is coming the new R8 that will have an evolutionary design that eschews the iconic sideblades. The automatic seven-speed DSG gearbox will be the only transmission available, so no more manuals from 2014.
Eventually, the V10 could be replaced by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS).
CAR reports that the 2014 R8 will get a space frame made from a mixture of carbon fiber and aluminum elements. The current car has an all-aluminum space frame (ASF).
That and other changes should be good for a weight savings of about 220 pounds.

Will have to wait and see how it goes, but I'm really not pleased about the loss of the manual and the sideblades. Theres a rendering floating around there that I hope is in no way accurate as the R8 goes from something incredibly recognizable and good looking to exotic wedge #5 =/ Porsche is introducing a 7 speed manual and Audi is ditching manuals from the R8 and A4/S4 (in europe)? That's what attracted me to these cars in the first place.

i agree. The S/RS series should all have option to be manual. A series should just leave Auto with Tiptronic. If you want manual you want performance so you need to buy those. just my thoughts though.
