I got my tint done at Shadow tint in Calgary, Alberta. The guys were great took all the windows off and tinted them put the car back together in a day. It was very pricy for the tint in my opinion but I also was willing to pay double than other guys so I dont get the purple Barney windows...hahaha... The tint I got is made by 3M and it is a 20% HP (high preformance) without metals so the signal is the same, one thing i wanted to varify. The tint was done all around @ 20% and it looks amazing they did it in -30 degree weather using an alcohol based solution to apply the tint so it does not freeze. The tint looks great and its amazing. well worth the $380 that I paid

Re: Tinting Experiences!

I have reservation for the quality of work from The Detailing Shop at NewMarket. They tinted 5 of my cars throughout the years, but their workmanship is getting worst and worst. The 1st one VW GTI which was done by Sean is superb, that make me go back for my Saab couple years later. That time, his staff cut couple lines of the rear defogger. I accepted this as an accident. Then my wife's Volvo. This time, the whole windshield is fully covered with fine hair line scratches. This is caused by applying windshield water repellent. I don't know what kind of applicator they used for the application. Dishwashing pads may be? I learned the experience and don't order the windshield thing for my 4th car (it's a Volvo too). And it is OK that time, but still not as good as the 1st one. Early this year, I find my love - allroad 2005 manual-6. But a week after tinting, I try to press down the matrix area around the rear windows and found the installer scraped off the antenna connections from the right rear side window. The antenna wire on the left rear side window is almost broken, just barely connected. I guess this will be my last time to deal with Sean's shop. Anyone knows how to solder back the antenna connection on the window? I don't think regular soldering irons works, right? Sigh!

I got a quote from The Detailing Shop this week its for the pinnicle rating tinting they offer, which is pretty much the best one they do I think for $340, 35%. The Detailing Shop - Featuring Formula One Ceramic Vehicle Tint - 905.853.3113 - Newmkarket, Ontario, Canada

Can anyone tell me if this is good for my A4? For those that have gotten their cars tinted from The Detaining Shop, do they cover the entire glass, meaning no visible tint lines what so ever, do they remove the glass from the door to tint it?

Don't EVER apply any type of heat to the glass... It will shatter into a milloin pieces (well, the tint will hold it in place - but still break) Only way to fix it is to use a conductive adhesive or epoxy.

I ripped the defogger wire off my corolla. Decided to fix it by wedging a piece of tin foil between the wire and the rear window contact, turned on the defogger, and 4 seconds later POP. Lucky I had tint... it held the glass in place for 3 days untill I replaced the window.

Aluminum foil is not a good conductor - heats up when current is passed through it.
