Who likes them anyway...
Anybody had the gutz to sand them and put paint on them?
Any happy or horror story?

First step would be to learn some rudimentary body paint skills such as how to properly prep surface areas and masking the rest of the car to eliminate over spray.
Second step would be to heavily research the paint you are wanting to use. What sort of finishes you will apply on top of the paint as this particular spot is a rather high traffic area for paint.
Given the plethora of bad advice out there I would opt for some actual literature rather than misc advice from forums.
That being said. Its just the plastic piece you are wanting to paint?. Being plastic you will need a paint that adheres to plastic. Krylon paints has a product that i've used a few times with some success. If you can, remove the plastic piece and have it done in a spray booth or something similar. Another option would be to remove the piece and replace it with something you do like such as carbon fiber or if you want a classy look, have a carpenter make one out of wood, mahogany is always nice when finished.
I think I will take a look at mine and see if I have any other ideas.
good luck

I damaged my bottom plastic moldings while jacking up my Q.
I called my Audi dealer and they informed me that these moldings are sold prime (unpainted)
Therefore, one would have to first buy the separate damaged moldings ' Prime' from Audi, then have the parts painted.
The cost for all this? You don't want to know.. -I tried sanding , applied epoxy resin, and then painted, and my result was horrible. I would suggest not to try doing this yourself , unless your a professional.
My only solution now is to spend the money and have a professional body shop try to re-finish or buy original parts from Audi and have them painted
