Ask me anything about Audis!

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Thats good to hear and hope it stays that way!
Regarding the alternator, was just asking out of curiosity. Audi shoehorned that motor into that engine bay and we've seen the heat cook alternators...leading to starting/charging/electric issues.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
i have a 2002 A4 quattro 1.8 turbo
what would be a good brand name that makes a K04 turbo and also i was thinking of a baileys or forge BOV. and what are major signs of turbo failure.. i was looking at the turbo when doing timing belt and their is very minimal play on the intake side of the turbo but 1 mm is like one mile in i turbo i understand...And minimal oil in the inter-cooler system but when accelerating the boost fluctuates... so is it possible my turbine in the turbo is hitting the sidewall causing it to stop/slow down and have to re-boost. and if so im guessing i need a new turbo or rebuild existing turbo. sorry this is so long i have so many questions...lol
Thanks Brandon

No worries...keep the questions coming...here to help as much as we can!
Instead of going down the k04 path, have you thought about the GT Garrett turbos? Just a heads up, once you start upgrading turbos...its a dangerous road . Next up, bigger injectors, intake, intercooler, software etc etc...it becomes very addicting lol.
Regarding the BOV, theres always been a debate if using one will harm your motor over the long term. Both Forge and HKS make good BOVs...however, some guys will use a hybrid (BOV/DV) system...makes that whoosh sounds and retains some of the stock functionality.
Major signs of turbo failure include little to no boost, excessive whining/metal on metal grinding sounds, leaks, bluish smoke coming out of the tailpipe. A spinning turbine would chew away at the housing...it wouldn't hit the side and then stop. The on and off boost youre experiencing could be related to possible wastegate issues, previous misfires or even a blocked cat causing a restriction. If there is no obvious signs of a bad turbo, there is something around it thats causing it to spin up and down.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hello,
I have a 2000 A4 1.8T FWD (I wish it was Quattro) and I need the starter replaced. I was just wondering if you knew what the brand (and part # if possible) is that makes the original part (OEM I think it is)? I have looked everywhere online and have not found an answer, so I am here. If you could get back that would be awesome!
Thanks,
Dev
P.S. What you are doing here is just great

Easiest question for last tonight !
The starter is a Bosch SR0421X...Audi PN# 06B911023. This applies to both the 1.8T ATW and AWM motors.

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hello MF,
Can you tell me if it is ok to use a thermostat with a lower heat rating on my 98 Audi A6 30v 2.8L? I ordered a Beck/Arnley but the temperature on it is 176 degrees F. I believe the original is 195 degrees. Will this cause a problem for a 98 Audi? I don't drive it in Winter months.
Also I bought NGK platinum plugs(BKR6EGP). The plugs I took out have two prongs for the tip to spark. Will I be ok with the single style? Thanks in advance.
Mark

Re: Ask me anything about Audis!
Hi There,
I just joined the forum.
I have a S4 2011, which I will be trading in for a 2014 S5 Cab. Is there any flash system that connot be detected by Audi Canada?
I was told that the NTM should be ok for this.
Please comment.
Thanks,
Mike

The OE thermostat for your car is Hella or Behr PN# 078121113F and states 87 degrees C. They are available online anywhere from 15-25$. I can't imagine the Beck Arnley as much cheaper. Stick with the OE part. Also, dont forget to put in the new o-ring!
The single style will be fine and just for reference, the OE plugs are BKR6EKUB.
