Under the knife...or wrench
So my alternator went last week, and last night I started operating on Lola, Yes i named my car Lola. And if you love your car you should name it too, Moving on, As Im taking things apart i was checking parts for things that could be broken/breaking.
I dont like the way my Dv's are feeling so i may replace them.
I really wanted to do a nice DIY of ripping her apart but it's hard taking so many pictures and with my workload at school i dont think it's gonna happen. Next time i take it off i'll do a nice write up.
I have lot's of work to do on her, Although i need some input.
First my car is not chipped, yes i know i'm going backwards, but my policy has been if it breaks replace it with better.
Im getting misfires of cylinder 4 and 6, enough to leave codes when i read with the vag-com. As well the oil has taken on a slight smell of gas :-s. She was compression tested last year and was great. She has 220000 km's now lol i plan on driving and keeping this the rest of my life if possible. I'm just curious as to what sort of performance loss the injectors may be facing after so many km's. I'd like to replace them, along with the spark plugs. But because i'm not chipped what sort of options are there? Eventually i'd like to chip it, and if doing so will get rid of the misfires then maybe that's the next step.
So what injectors should i look at getting, that will work on a stock setup and on a chip.
Right now she has
k04's, inlets and piping. Intake, ceramic coated manifolds, new MAF, new coil packs. and RED FUEL RAIL
Any input appriciated
Here are some pictures of the process.
Pic1, My suspension busing ripped off...gotta replace
Pic2, I finally found a use for my old computer!
Pic3, took half the piping off the motor
Pic4, the Void which was my alternator
Pic5, My painted fuel rail, after my last repair when i started it, one of the injector seals wasnt good and sprayed 1/2 a tank of gas on it while it was semi fresh. Held up ok. I think it looks cool, Adds 15 hp at least, not to mention all the stickers i have on it. I must be up to 300hp by now!
Pic6, Anyone elses intercoolers get full of little rocks?! mine are really getting dinged up and full of crap.

Re: Under the knife...or wrench
New dv's thinking the forge motorsport ones, just cuz i like the sound.
electric fan mod, and delete the one off the serp belt
Oil cooler, new links and tierods and bushings.
new rear diff mount, i got a bit of a clunk.
new plugs, i have platinum, im thinking iriduim.
Shocks and springs (my rear spring looks like it was cut, but it's not lower and it looks almost the same as the other side, maybe just how it's worn.
then try to put it all together!

Re: Under the knife...or wrench
The rear spring is likely broken as it's common with higher mileage in harsh climates. Suggest inspect spring ends closely as it should be apparent if a coil end has broken.
Consider 710N DVs from the 225HP TT. Very reliable and cost effective while maintaining OEM operation even when chipped for the 2.7T
Suggest inspect rear suspension bushings along with rear diff mount. Common for higher mileage to replace rear bushings as they start to disintegrate and cause clunks. There are 3 upper and 3 lower control arm bushing connections per side and 2 per arm are split bushings meaning 20 bushings to replace along with the 2 rear tie rods for a complete refresh.

I came across something troubling though, the oil, smells like gas.....a lot like gas. I'm getting a lot of misfires from cyl 4, so i'm hoping it's just something from that and not blown piston seals. It was pressure tested last year and was deemed ok. So as soon as i pull the plugs tomorrow i'll investigate further the cause of this. good thing i got my mobile 1 on sale!
