Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4

Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4
I was going to purchase an S4 in the states and drive it back to Canada. I know all the paperwork and mods required and i am fine there, but i have been looking at 2003 RS6's and i am finding they are relatively cheap. Is there a reason for this? Is the cost of maintaining them the reason? I am thinking they are worth the 25-30 grand and most have relatively low miles. I was going to buy an S4 and do the RS upgrades so i would have spent 25ish anyway. So i am wondering what you guys would do.

Re: Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4
US spec S4 here and couldn't be happier ...
Is the RS6 admissable ? No question the car is awesome but due to its size and auto tranny, it isn't for everyone. I assume the mtce costs on the RS will be substantially greater than the S. At the end of the day, if you're happy with the way it drives and know what you're getting into then go for it.

Re: Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4
Which model S4 are you interested in... B5, B6, B7? Note that US Spec B5's are inadmissible into Canada.
C5 RS6 is quite a different car than an S4. Suggest driving one of each body style your interested in, like maybe a twin turboless C5 4.2 for reference since C5 RS6's are pretty rare here.

Re: Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4
There are new regulations due to a change in the bumper rules. I also called and asked Transport Canada and they said they are admissible and they referred me to the following pdf.
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/impor...list/VAFUS.pdf
If you look and the new Audi section on page 8, you will see what i was told. There is a list of things that every car must have looked at, such as DTRL, Airbags with Canadian standards, etc...
If you guys know anything other than I have been told, let me know.
Oh, the cars i am looking at are:
2002 S4 and 2003 RS6
Thanks.

Re: Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4
The RIV list was updated last Friday to reflect bumper harmonization.
I read in some review that the 2003 RS6 was a bit dullish to drive. May have as much to do with the auto tranny as with the overall heft of the car.
How about an RS4 cab?

Re: Need some Advice, RS6 vs S4
Hands down I'd get the S4 if you're talking about a B7. That's what I did.
Buying a 2003 car would be a bandaid...you'd end up buying another car in 2 years. RS6 sure is crazy though. I'm reasonably sure they were very inadmissable. Not just bumper reasons...a whole host of reasons. Check the TRANSPORT CANADA list. You can find the link at Registrar of Imported Vehicles RIV: How to import a U.S made vehicle into Canada
p.s. many people said the B6 S4 wasn't admissable before the recent TC changes. This is untrue. Only certain ones were inadmissable. It was dependant on the VIN. A friend of mine brought in an admissable VIN 2005 S4 back in June 2007. No problemo.
p.s.s...the $5000 bumper modifications on the B7 RS4 are now out of the way. Now THAT'S good news! With the new RS4 not coming until 2011 model year, this car will be a fantastic pre-owned option for anyone looking for a ball of AWD fury.
