Question Infiniti G37s vs B5 S4

Hey there, quick question...my neighbor down the street drives a 07 or 08 G37s stock and i'm running just an upgraded ecu on it about 310HP. He wants to setup a drag and i've talked alot of smack so I wouldn't like to lose lol. Any opinions on who would win? He's using paddles, i'm in a 6-speed with stiffened clutch and suspension.

thanks alot

Everything below is assuming that your car is sorted and running optimally; and, that the G37 has no mods.

G37 Coupe is 2008+ and it's 330hp/270tq; the weight is nearly identical to the manual B5. He's got a few more ponies than you, but you've probably got more area under the curve given the chipped 2.7TT's broad powerband. He has RWD, you have full-time AWD, so you're losing a lot of power there. He has an auto (drag racing autos - yay!) with no launch control, you've got a stick, so you're better there assuming you can drive and don't miss a shift.

This race would be close enough to come down to the driver, but I think you'll lose if he knows what he's doing; which, won't exactly be difficult for him since he's got an auto. That said, if he just mashes it from idle, you'll get quite a big jump on him - if you know how to launch, and have decent tires - and he may not be able to reel you in if the race is short enough, ie. 1/4 mile.

If you really want to win just stall until you get a turbo-back in, then you'd probably win easily. Or race in the wet. Or max out them credit cards on a Stage 3+ and absolutely destroy him

The auto G37's feel a lot less spirited than the manual version. I suspect your car will pull on his just slightly, but you should be able to win.

Let us know how you did.

Default B6 S4 vs. Nissan Sentra Spec-V w Turbo Kit

I was driving recently down an "unnamed street in Mexico", and as i was slowing down to a red light, i heard the sound of a blow off valve out my passenger window. Looked over and there was a 2005ish Nissan Sentra Spec V with a Turbo kit. The light turned green and he launched fairly hard, tires chirped and he took off. I wasn't even contemplating racing as i do that at the dragstrip locally.

BUT, i changed my mind at the next set of lights and told myself that i would exceed the speed limit on this street by much, so the light turned green and i stabbed the throttle and he took off. I had him from the launch and i was also pulling on him. The race didn't last long as i don't like speeding much in the city.

I was actually impressed my 6 spd automatic pulled the way it did. Still no manual, but held it's own.

So sorry for the long wait but I think we all knew the outcome here. We had a long stretch from a stop in the country. Rev about 4-5 feel out the clutch and I was out of 2nd before I could even look down at the speedo. Let up at the top of bottom of 4th...about 170. I really feel comfortable and know what this car is capable of now.

Thought you might be interested in this Edmunds comparo between the 330hp Infiniti G37S and the 300hp BMW 330i coupe (not the M3):

Comparison Test: 2007 BMW 335i vs. 2008 Infiniti G37

"The G37's long-stroke V6 is helpless against the 335i's velvety midrange punch ...once you factor this against the BMW's lively, informative steering, more delicate control feel and punchier power plant, there's no doubt about which coupe is more satisfying to pilot."

The reviewer obviously loves the Bimmer. And is unnecessarily harsh on the Infiniti. That said, it does appear to deliver more quicker more responsive ride ....albeit for a lot more green.
