Computer chips / good and bad

Computer chips / good and bad
I am thinking of chipping my 2006 B7 S4 6spd. I have never chipped any of my vehicles before and am worried about the possible negative effects. I use my S4 as my daily driver and plan on keeping it in good mechanical shape for the next 8+ years.
I also have a Milltek cat back exhaust soon being installed, as well as had my eyes on a set of Milltek cats and downpipes but am worried that the full system will be a bit too loud for my current tastes.
Have any of you had any bad experiences with chipping your B7 or any other for that matter? I want to weigh the benefits versus the negative possibilities of chipping. I am pretty much decided on a GIAC chip if I do it, and I always run 94 octane.
Thanks for all you input.

Chipping isnt gonna give you much in the way of gains. That said, drivability may be a bit better. Check out JHM's offerings as their bolt ons with software is providing pretty substantial gains. Bottom line: do a search on Audizine.com and you'll find several opinions ...
With respect to the exhaust options, I strongly suggest listening to someone's car with the setup you're considering. Loud for some is not loud enough for others. Although my 4.2 is different than yours, I have a resonated flapless Miltek with stock DP's on mine and it sounds awesome but I would definitely not want it to be louder ...
Good luck choosing.

Re: Computer chips / good and bad
I purchased my 2006 S4 already chipped and exhaust done by previous owner. The work was done here in Ontario by Pfaff tuning. I don't know what the chip is but I do know that the pedal response is better than stock with moderate HP gain. My exhaust is Stassis quad and is fairly loud. My wife complains that she can hear me comming home from 4 to 5 blocks away. The suspension was also lowered with Stassis shocks and Eibach springs. My car is substantially louder than stock but I really like the deep loud rumble sound. Like Steve said it comes down to personal taste. Hope this helps and if you have any question don't hesitate to contact me.
