Trusted only Dealer to install one in my previous Audi 5000 CD, but haven't needed one for my beast. It always starts! Last winter I had to park car outside all the time (only winter ever) and it still started, even on coldest days. I was in Quebec over Xmas last year and we had an ice storm, and still it started no problem. Had to use remote starter as ice was 1" thick all over car. Now if you're going way way up North and having outside parking with -25C temps, well then, I'd agree completely. Even so, a cold start with cold oil isn't best for engine, so I don't think it's a bad thing to have one installed, but not really necessary in Toronto. I'd still go to dealer for that. I still remember that it cost me about $200 installed but that was almost 20 years ago.
