Emergency window replacement near Montreal
Hi all, a chunk of ice fell off the Pont Champlain and smashed the rear window on my 2002 A4 Avant. Weirdest thing, and damn loud.
Need to get it fixed ASAP, anyone know a good shop here in Montreal? One with weekend hours? Have to drive back to NYC on Tuesday.
Thanks!

Now the shopping start
Well, after a lot of reading and some research, I have finally decide to buy an A4 avant (B7) instead of an A3. The A3 would have been the ideal for fun car to drive but with 2 kids, might have been a little bit to tight. Plus quattro was a must and it is standard for B7 wagon.
Just wanted to get some feedbacks from any A4 avant owner on this board. What year is your car and what option you have? Did you mod the car or just left it stock with some new 'shoes'? I am not crazy on moding anything related to car engine. Just looking to to some simple exterior add-on to ave a better looking car.
Also, I still can decide between getting an 07 or an 08. The only fact that I like about the 08 (beside being more recent) is that the exterior has the S-Line package so I won't need to invest later on to get the same look. (unless I decide to go with DTM)
Now the difficult part is to find one that has the option I am looking for such as:
Premium
'True' S-Line package (will be a plus for the 07 but not needed)
Cold weather package
Bi-xenon (would love to have but can be added later on)
There are a few of 06 out there so chime in to let me know what your thoughts are. Also looking to import a car from the US. Any thoughts on that? Did all the reading an technically, it is simple to do... just a lot of paperworks. But it is really worth it at the end?
Thanks

Re: Now the shopping start
I would get the car with the bells and whistles right now rather then after the fact. Yeah it is a bit more to fork up upfront, but to add all those extra things is quite expensive later on, for example to do the adaptive headlights withcornering, you are looking at least $2000, the S-line package will be quite a bit as you will have to paint the parts and then spend the time to put them on, and worry about paint matching etc. Also when you get the car it will have some warranty so any of these things go wrong Audi fixes, but on after market stuff and later added on you are SOL my friend. I would go for the 2008 as it is the later model a lot of the issues have been fixed and newer car period.
Importing from the US is a big pay off in some cases, in others its a loss or a break even situation, depending on what vehicle to you end up getting. Just make sure you do your reasearch.
Good Luck

Re: Now the shopping start
A quick caution against bringing a car in from the US. A friend of mine did it a couple years back and has had some warranty issues. He purchased the vehicle from a dealer in the US and was assured the Audi Certified Pre-Owned 100,000 mile warranty would be honored in Canada. Audi Canada had another idea.
You'll notice that 100,000 miles is the equivalent to 160,000 km so it would logically follow that my friend's extended warranty would be honored up until his odo hit 160,000 km. However, when he tried to get warranty coverage slightly after he hit the 100,000 km mark, Audi Canada informed him that his certified warranty had expired. They considered the warranty period to end at 100,000 km since the car was brought into Canada. I know, it makes no sense what so ever, and I struggle to find the logic in any of this, but that's what happened.

Re: Now the shopping start
There are 2 reasons to get a used car from the US:
1) Lots to choose from so you can usually find exactly what you're looking for and
2) Its a much better deal.
If you can find what you're looking for up here at a reasonable price, you'll be better off as the CDN cars typically hold their value better. That said, I picked up a B7 S4 from the US approx 2 years ago for much less than what they were selling for here (our dollar was very strong!) and ended up selling it a few months ago to a local guy wanting my car enough to make it worth my while to move on.
If Mark Motors cant get something in that meets your requirements try Import Car Centre - they found me my current whip whitin 48 hrs of doing the paperwork for me on my S4 ...

Canada CPO ends at 6 yrs after in-service date or 120,000 km whichever occurs first.
US CPO ends at 6 yrs after in-service date or 100,000 mi - Was it possible your friend hit the 6 yr mark before the mileage one? Audi Canada and Audi US sites describe the terms in a fair amount of detail
