Tiptronic gear oil change?
I'm considering changing the gear oil on my Tiptronic tranny (-98 A6 A/Q
2.8 - 77kkm). Haven't discovered any problems - just a precaution.
Local dealer tells me that there's no official changing interval and that
they only change it "if the gearbox start slipping" or on other "symptoms".
Any recommendations?

Re: Tiptronic gear oil change?
If you are planning to DIY be careful to read past threads on this.
There is no way to check the fluid level without a VAG system.
No filler on the top of trans.
17mm allen wrench to remove plate in bottom to fill by pumping the oil
up / over a wall thingy.
If you drain the oil BE SURE to measure how much you remove to replace
the same amount with the recommended oil.
This is NOT something that I would let someone mess with unless the are
Audi mechs.

Re: Tiptronic gear oil change?
Thanks for the tip. I've seen the threads and decided that this oil change
would be done by the dealer (I'm far too lazy anyway...).
I was more thinking of the necessity of changing the oil at all, since Audi
don't recommend it. I guess it won't hurt, but is there any point in doing
it at all?

Re: Tiptronic gear oil change?
I wouldn't worry about it until twice your mileage.

Re: Tiptronic gear oil change?
This is a really old thread but I thought I'd add to it.
I just changed the trans. fluid in my 2003 Allroad. In addition to the usual removal of panels, filling is the big problem. The large, recessed plug at the rear of the oil pan is where the oil is added. There is no dipstick or fill tube. The oil must be "pumped" in to this opening through a tube that can reach through a slot in a plastic shield that is inside the trans. right above the large plug. The tube has to bend to get through the slot. Fill until the oil drains out. The car must be level to make sure that you don't over or under fill. Also, run engine after filling, go between gears, and check level again. I had to add about 1/2 pint after running for 5 minutes.
I bought a suction gun at Carquest store to fill. I heated the end of the plastic tube that came with it and bent it to fit through the slot . Be sure to use the correct oil. It took about 4 liters.
A tedious job but next time I'll do it in about 2 hours including removing the pan to replace the filter.
