Glass repair
Unfortunately, I have a stone dink and 1/2 inch crack in the windshield of my
RS6. It's rigt in the middle of the windshield and doesn't interfere with
forward vision.
I hate to have the windshield replaced. My past experience with windshield
replacement was not a happy one.
So, the question: Has anyone ever had a crack *repaired*? I understand that
this is possible, but with what success?
TIA

It is easier as long as it's a dink.. when it turns into a crack it
gets harder. Now you should literally have it repaired within hours.
If the crack propagates too far they wont be able to repair it. And it
can propagate merely by thermal loads.
I had it done, it worked for 4 years before one stone hit an already
repaired spot a second time, then it was time to replace.
They drill a hole to stop the crack from growing and then they fill it
with (something like) epoxy resin. But the crack has to be clean. So
do it quickly.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have so much on my plate right now, so I won't
be able to get to it until next week.
Again, thanks for the info.

At 1/2 inch it's on the verge of repairable, IIRC about 20mm is
repairable. IT's usually very good and leaves a tiny mark that you have
to look for.

a crack may not be repairable and will most probably migrate with time.
How long has it been since you acquired it.
