Audi 1.8T - problems under acceleration and speed
Hello Audi World
I have an A6 1.8T Quattro 2000 model with 62k miles on the clock.
Overall very pleased but over the last few months it has developed a
problem which yesterday took a turn for the worse.
Under hard acceleration the engine stutters - it is fine at normal
acceleration and to be honest when I first noticed the problem the car
was shortly due for a service and so I didn't do anything about it.
After the service (non dealer), the problem still exists. However, it
has also developed further in that the car exhibits a similar
stuttering (like a misfire) at high speeds (over 65mph). This was
particuarly noticeable when accelerating - but yesterday it happended
when crusing. I was on a long journey back from the south of england
fully loaded with kids, wife and bikes.
Something I noticed after I had stopped for fuel is that when I
restarted the engine it hunted up and down (about 300 revs) around the
idling speed for about 1 minute before settling down.
Anyone have any ideas? Is there a helpline I can call?
Thanks
Simonb

Take the car to someone with a VAG tool or emulator and dump codes.
There's a good chance your MAF has gone to Heaven, less likely you're dropping
an ignition coil. Either can be determined with a tool, and replacement might
be covered under Audi's "double-secret warranty" coverage...

It might also be nothing more than a dirty fuel filter.
