Need to replace the CV joints on my '98 A6 2.4 FWD. Can anybody give
me any pointers as have not done this job before.

If I were doing the job I would get a rebuilt set of axles instead of
rebuilding the CV joints. I will cost very little more and be so much
easier.
I think some get them at www.raxles.com (or something like that)

Use a BIG breaker with 3/4 in drive to break loose the axle stub nuts
before lifting to jack stands.

Have both sides off the ground so that the sway bar is not fighting you.

There is a shield around the inner CV to protect from heat (if it is
like A4). These require a long set of extensions and 10mm socket and
even the will be difficult.

Remove the tie rod end.

Remove the 6 bolts on inner attaching it to output of trans. These are a
tool called a tri-square and should be available in sets of four at you
local FLAPS.

You will probably not be able to rotate the strut far enough to push the
axle in and remove from the hub. If this is the case you might find it
easier to remove the top bolts on the strut (fender inside engine
compartment). and drop the strut. Be very careful with this step and
have a friend there to help lower it down easily.

R&R axle or CVs.

Assembly is reverse
