'84 Audi 4000S Quattro gear oil
Hi all, just curious if someone that still has an owner's manual or a
tech manual might know if there's any specific or special kind of gear
oil I should use for the transmission and differential. Is regular 90
weight gear oil appropriate?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
In the 5ktq, it's GL-4 in the transmission, and GL-5 in the rear diff -
mixing up the two will damage the brass synchros in the transmission.
Searching www.audifans.com comes up with:
According to the Bentley, the 4kq transmission takes SAE 80W or 80W/90, GL4,
and the rear diff takes SAE 90, GL5.

Cheers!
