Re: 1st gear stiff
Don't confuse Gear Oil with Engine Oil!!
Engine oil goes in under the hood. Gear Oil on these cars goes straight
into the transmission under the car.
I use Mobil 1 for the engine oil. However, if it's a brand new car, I
suggest running a normal, even crappy, oil for the first 10,000 miles or so,
then change to a synthetic. If you start out with a synthetic the car
literally will never break in. The parts will never mate as well and you'll
never see your best power or gas mileage. The engine needs to wear for the
first few thousand miles to do this.
I've used Red Line in my manual transmissions. It made a big difference
in very cold weather shifting when the car was cold.
....oh, but I see that it's a 2000. Yea, I'd use synthetic for the
Engine Oil as well.

Re: 1st gear stiff
So if I understand you right, I should use synthetic engine oil and Red Line
gear oil right? I suppose changing the gear oil might mean a trip to the
garage then.
