1991 100 electrical issues
I just bought a 1991 100 with 100k miles and it is starting to do some
really strange things
this is what is happening,
1 the radio stays on when the key is turned off
2 the engine runs when the key is turned off the only way the engine turns
off is by removing the key form the ignition! go figure,
and finally the climate control works intermitenly, could all this be caused
by the same thing>?
and can I remove the cliamte control and install some kind of manual cliamte
control>?
thanks in advance
paul

Re: 1991 100 electrical issues
Paul,
A) congrats on the new car.
2) not sure about your #s 2 and 3, but for #1, I'm pretty sure that's
normal. My car is the same way, the stereo isn't wired into the ignition
system, so you have to manually turn it off and on.
Enjoy

Re: 1991 100 electrical issues
Paul,
Apparently some of the Type 44's sold in Europe had a manual CC option,
however without airconditioning. It may be possible to find the manual
controls you talked about from an Audi breaker in the UK, or check on eBay
Germany (and brush up on a different language ....with the help of the
Babelfish translator, of course)
Cheers!

Like Bill said. This is normal.

Bad ignition switch would be my guess. Remove instrument cluster - easy
to change.

Probably not. Are you sure that the climate control is on/off rather
than just the heater blower motor. This is the typical failure mode of a
blower motor that has developed a case of bad brushes.

Finding and fixing the problem is a lot easier than a complete retrofit.
There are a lot of inerrelated things involved.

Yes, indeed, this is normal. You will just have to turn your car radio off
manually, that is all.
