In need of Audi history guru...
Question: is there such thing as a 2000 audi rs6 wide body sedan?
So the story is, I have gone to look at this used being sold privately, the car is advertised to be a 2000 audi rs6. Something seems to be lagging when the car is coasting (like lighlty applying the breaks) and occasionaly it will slow more strongly for a brief second... The transmission appears to be shifting smoothly (it is a 5 speed auto tiptronic blah blah blah) so the thought might be that the center diff or whatever audi used in this particular model might be applying an uneccesary torque load while coasting. Back to the point at hand. I checked the history of the rs and s line models on wikipedia and according to them, the first audi rs6 was produced in 2002. Am I missing something? The badge on the car said rs6. I havent ran a VIN check yet, however im suspecting that is the next step.
Cheers, any opinions woul be appreciated

Great write up here Audi RS6 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It looks like there was no 2000 RS6. The first RS6 was 2002

What does the owner say about it? Obviously, it can't be a factory RS6; but, many people have retrofitted their base cars to RS specs. Check the VIN online, but if it says that it's an A6 orS6, it doesn't mean the owner didn't twin-turbo it himself and swap in an RS6 interior.

Re: In need of Audi history guru...
Could very well be the owner either got the year wrong on it or changed the badges on it. The car most definitely did not have any turbo's on it. It's advertised to be a 4.2 V8 with 300 hp and automatic tiptronic trans.
Furthermore, the trim level of the car was most definitely not a conventional a6, but rather had the stock appearance of an S-line (ie wider more aggressive wheel arches ect...)
Thanks for the replies btw.
As for the faster than normal slowing of the car while coasting... Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences with this? I had a mechanic ride in the car with me and he suggested it was something to do with the torque converter. He sent me a link supporting his claim that made some sense to me... Ill post the link when I find it again in case anyone is interested.

The A6 4.2L V8s all had wider fender flares than A6 with smaller engines. Unless it has beefed up suspension and S6 brake system and a 340hp engine plus other features noted below, you are likely looking at an A6 4.2L and not an S6. Forget about it being an RS6. That's wishful thinking from what you've said about car.
"Visual clues to the S6's identity are few. There are tiny boot badges, an S6-badged Audi Sport front radiator grille, brushed aluminium door mirror casings, 17-inch Avus six-spoke alloy wheels and twin stainless steel exhaust pipes. The 340bhp S6 was created in late 1999."
The 2002 RS6 had a 450hp biturbo engine. I can't find any evidence of a 2000 RS6. Don't think an owner would mistake his car for an older one, especially when selling. VIN check would be essential before going any further. Get it right off car and ask to check ownership as well. If owner is not forthcoming with info, run, run, run.
Don't get taken for a ride here. Run, don't walk away. Think you're looking at a basic 2000 A6 4.2L - nice car, but worth only a fraction of an 2000 S6 or 2002 RS6.
