Daylight running light replacement - 2005 A6
Anyone know how to get at the bulb to replace it? I got the bulb, now just need to figure out how to get at the socket! BTW, its the driver side bulb I need to replace.

I attempted to replace it myself without having to disassembling both bumper and headlights but i only got as far as taking off the cover. Its quite difficult. Eventually brought it to the dealer.

A bit easier if you remove the screw that holds the coolant reserve tank and rotate it out of the way, also remove band clamp around other tank (power steering as I recall) and move it to the side too. Once that's done you can remove the black plastic panel (just snaps in place) that covers the back of the headlight area. I replaced my stock bulbs with leds from this place extreme bright leds.com (its local to me). So far, so good.

I mention that site in particular because those bulbs don't require separate resistors. But ask the site what works best for your car, the first bulb I used only lasted a few weeks before it overheated and burned out. The second version has been working well so far with no error. They first version burned out after running (on a day trip) for about 3 hours. The bulbs aren't really designed to run for multiple hours (are they do on a long day trip when installed as drl) that's why they overheat. They are happier as signal bulbs, but as I said, the current version I have installed seem to be doing fine.
