Wink Just bought a 04 A6, Navigation suggestions ?

Hi,

Just got my A6 and I love it so far. Only things that are bugging me is the Mid oil light has come on. I have a oil changed booked for Monday. And I notice the driver headlight vibrates when in park or stop. Not that I hear it but i can see the reflection of it.

I want to install navigation does anyone have the RNS-E ? I think it looks nice but I would like to hear from someone that has one.

If I did decide to go with it I would like to know what extra's i need to get. Do I need to buy anything seperate with it ? Is it just plug and play ? what back up cam etc. Thanks for your time.

Congratulations on your A6. What year/trim did you get? You can reset the oil service light with instructions at the back of your owner's manual. Also, I'd check the top three fasteners that hold your headlighst in place. They're Torx, but I can't remember what size. Maybe a T-30. There is one where you need a 6-inch extension to get to. The RNS-E costs about $1,000 just for the unit itself and I only know of a few people who have had it installed. It is possible and those who have done it think it's great. There is a write up on Audiworld's C5/A6 forum.

Where is the best place to get this? Prices are all over the map, as it were. I am uninstalling my aftermarket unit, that is basically crap.

I just ordered a 2011 RNS E from Zawa from another forum. Just google him or ask me and I can point you in the right direction. I cant wait. Its running me $1600 but the OEM looks great and every one that has one of these units loves it. In my truck I have a Avic unit but in the Audi the RNS E just looks so sweet.

I am just going to let everyone know , I received my new RNS E Navigation From Zawa.

Its the new 2010+ model and I love it. I had him program it for my C5 and it works flawless.

Also a paid a few bucks more for him to customize my bezel on the unit to match my dash.

I have been a past AVIC user and after having to repair it I decided I wanted OEM.

But the 2010+ RNSE is not possible some said. But Zawa knows his S$^@.

I will post some pic's tomorrow for you guys to drool over lol.

I am pumped and it looks so good and clean, The steering wheel controls " MFSW" work,

Displays on the dash 2x's 32 Gb sd cards LOL you know how much music that is ? I dont even have 64 gb of music on my computer .

I now have my navigation and to think its the same that comes in the new Audi's and lambo's.

I just wanted to share this with my fellow Audi owners in case you are looking for navigation.

I plan on getting the St radio and Blue Tooth modules from Zawa in the future.

If any one has question let me know. And thanks zawa for the purchase.

I put mine in almost a year ago. The one I had was not a new unit, it was from a wrecked 4.2 40V model. Had some meddling to do with the wiring but everything looks clean and just like it was a factory option.

Yea most of it was plug and play unless you wanted the GALA wire working.

I had to take out my dash clusters and tap into the GALA wire But it was easy with the help I had From Zawa and Rich.

Besides I took the cluster out to mount the Nav antenna back there anyway.

I did it all while replacing the burnt out information centre on my instrument cluster so all the wiring took me a lot longer than I expected but it worked perfectly fine for me. Now I have a new LCD panel and RNS-E and it looks great.

I have a Kenwood DNX7140 that I bought from Sonic Electronix online and installed 2 years ago... and it's great. Has everything - Garmin gps, bluetooth, ipod/usb input, dvd, etc. on a 7" screen. I downloaded an audi emblem pic for the startup screen and set the colours to red to match my dash. It looks great, but if I had to do it again, I might save some money and get a 6" screen with more buttons. I haven't seen the newest RNS, but what I have is IMHO better than the old RNS and half the price.

Nice, But from my prior / younger years " Being A Bass Junky" Meaning amps and subs.

I have owned a kenwood unit and had a lot of problems after the 1st yr.

My last head unit was a Avic from Pioneer. I loved it but again they are built to break and I paid around the same for it.

I replaced 3 flex ribbon cables at $300 a piece and I still have the unit in my truck , But All I get is a black screen.

The ribbon went again , But this time I am done with it. I can still use the cd and radio but I have a black screen, so no Nav or back up cam anymore.

Also I really liked the look of the stock unit.

If you cant afford the new RNS-E then you have many options even the RNSE clone.

But in the end I bought Audi for quality , So I went with stock. I have out grown the after market looks for the most part.

Yea I don't have touch screen but that's just one less thing to break.

I was iffy on buying it at 1st, But after I installed it I am very happy with its options and performance.

My wife loves it, it doesnt have any glitches, Adam did a great job.

And I dont care what unit you buy, None will look as good in the car as the Audi RNS-E

But again not saying that there isn't nice units out there just as good or better.

But I would buy it again after my experience.
