Default High oil temperature - A6 2.7T

Hey guys, I am seeing something I havent seen since I acquired the car last year in august.

Since the beginning of this summer, I realised that my OIL TEMP has gone from a normal 80-90 Celcius to always something between 90-110 (sometimes if hot weather). I even felt that the intercooler are heat soaked at times when I run hard on the highway.

So my question is: IS THAT NORMAL FOR TURBO ENGINES? SHOULD I BE WORRIED? ANYTHING I NEED TO CHECK? (still under warranty for another 8000km).

fyi: I am shopping to replace my intercoolers with another set of smic but I have no idea what brand is best for my A6 2.7T.

please share your expertise and opinions on this.

I just got back form driving my car in Vegas, I regularly saw oil temps that high, even on highway driving, water temp was 100ish, I would consider AWE IC's they are less expensive than ER's and have been proven to have comparable performance

I understand that with extreme hot weather, the oild heats up, but with 20-25 celcius here in montreal, Im still getting 90-100 Celcius after a while of drive down to work. I used to see 80 celicus on a regular basis and up to 90 after a while of drive. Why has it changed now?

I would have to say thermostat, or your coolant has an air pocket.

Your second person to mention that. That maybe the dealer didnt do a good job of draining the air from the coolant system??? Anyways, I got a VAG Motorsport shop not too far from my house and Im getting the car checked.

Replacing my DV's.
Flushing transmission fluid
and checked the MAF sensor
Ill also ask him to verify any air pockets in the cooling system.

Are you using the same type of oil as last year or did you change brand / grades?

Has the Thermostat been recently replaced? If you get constant heat in the winter then I doubt you have an air pocket in the cooling system.

I agree AWE is one of the best but last I checked pricing ER was the less expensive choice. Maybe AWE is finally lowering their price to compete with ER pricing? Personally I like and use AWE but I do hear good things about ER SMICs too.

I can usually get my hands on AWE's for about 150 less than the ER's

I replace oil every 5000-7000 km's. And yes I did change oil brand from last year in fact. I would normally let the dealer change the oil (dont remember what brand they use), but I know its not Mobile1 cause thats what I had put in this time at the Nissan's dealer while I was coming back from a trip and checked the oil and it needed replacement.

But I might do the next oil change at the dealer to see if there is any difference.

Hey Audi fans, I have a closure for this topic. I found my problem to why the oil temp has reached levels I NORMALLY didnt see last year.

The oil type
All my oil changes were made at Audi dealer until the last one, I had done at nissan dealer for an emergency. Problem with that? Nissan uses Mobile1 5W30 synthetic oil (which is not FULLY synthetic oil).

Audi Dealer uses CATROL SYNTEC 5W40 FULL SYNTHETIC OIL...Voila! Thicker oil was staying at lower temps then 5W30. Son of a briddggggggggge....

Interesting findings, I personally use redline 15-50 in the summer as I tend to beat on my car like I stole it
